Water is wet. I don’t know anyone who isn’t inhaling copium at an alarming rate who doesn’t feel this way. I’m not a GM but I can tell you trading zegras for poehling was as about as bad as a trade can get and you literally cannot tell me otherwise.
It’s not even been a full season and this is already one of the worst trades in the history of the franchise. I think PVB has done a lot of good things in his tenure here, but this was undoubtedly a terrible move.

there were so many Ducks “fans” who were very okay with PV trading away Zegras. i wonder where they are now?
tbf it doesnt take much to unlock our defense.. pretty sure we make a third liner look like mcdavid every game

Where are all the people saying it was a great trade and we had no place to play Zegras? We desperately miss his skill and leadership.
The trade was a bad return. And I’m not here to justify it. But to assume that Zegras would be playing here this year like he is in Philly, given everything we know about how both sides, management and Z appeared to have drifted apart, is not a reasonable assumption.
And, to be clear, the above doesn’t in any way minimize just how badly the Ducks management failed with Zegras if it took sending him to another team for him to start playing to his potential. (But it’s also possible that his season in Philly is the classic contract year stats bump.)
We played horribly tonight. We take penalties because we lack offensive capabilities.

I disagree with this post. We would be in the same position with Zegras… We need defense bad.
The Z and Gibby trades didn’t make sense to me when they happened and they still don’t. Traded away impact players in the positions we are hurting in.
I like Poehling. I think we’re a better team overall with Poehling. I thought Zegras should be traded. I did not think Zegras should be traded for Poehling.
That said, scoring isn’t our issue, and I’m pretty sure Derek knows that. Zegras does not and did not help with the issues this team suffers from.

he was always a great player but I wonder if he, like jamie, will stay healthy

Understandable, but it doesn’t matter when our defense is as porous as gas station toilet paper, and our goalies are facing more shots than AV actresses.
Honestly, I’ve given up on Pat. He needs to go. The problem isn’t the trade itself. Anaheim had to move Zegras because he was done playing in Anaheim and he basically told them that straight up. Pat’s real crime was mismanaging Zegras to the point where Z just said screw you guys and asked to be shipped out. That’s the real crime here. It didn’t have to be this way but our front office honestly sucks. They really F’ing suck and I’m tired of pretending otherwise.
Plus the return being very underwhelming, nothing against Poehling but he’s really not comparable

Where was Z’s ability to unlock defenses and contribute on the power play while he was in Anaheim?
Everyone really needs to get over the zegras crap. He doesn’t like Cali, the ducks, he’s a cry baby now. Always liked him but he’s different now and he’s on my least favorite team in the east so fuck him and fuck the flyers.
The Ducks aren’t losing because they don’t have Zegras.

Trading him obviously sucked and continues to suck. Trading him before he had a chance to play under Q was absolute malpractice.
Given the return of a 4th liner, Z’s value wasn’t going to go lower.
Verbeek should start feeling some heat. The Zegras trade, some of his contracts he’s doled out (Vatrano in particular) don’t look great.
The Flyers power play is one of the worst in the league and Zegras is a big reason why, I don’t see where at all he would contribute there. And even in this slump unlocking defenses hasn’t been the issue. People can take issue with the value play but there’s no irony here, he isn’t remotely a missing piece.
Zegras is a difference maker. He’s the one that can make that play that make you say omg. He has energy. Yes, he jokes around and talk a lot but he has undeniable energy on the ice. Dude is Patrick Kane under Quenneville. Unfortunately, the GM didn’t think he was a top 1 or 2 center. And they kept being in the position to draft another center. They criticize his defensive abilities but the last time I checked you need to score goals to win. See the Colorado Avalanche. He was a Fan favorite. Great player to market in a “Small Market.” What a joke when it happened. We could all see he was being mismanaged on the team.
