Dutch baseball legend Sidney de Jong has passed away at 46
January 8, 2026
Sad news. He represented the Netherlands at the 2004 Olympics and ‘09 WBC and was knighted after winning the 2011 Baseball World Cup. Also served as a coach and manager for Dutch national teams in recent years.

Man, this is sad to hear, he was also on the 2009 Kingdom of the Netherlands World Baseball Classic team which eliminated the stacked Dominican Republic that time which was really a very impressive moment considering how strong the DR are when it comes to Baseball.
So young… Can’t help but wonder how he went
RIP.
Crossed paths with Sidney a handful of times; he did things the right way, and earned respect rather than commanding it.
A sad day, and an unfortunate loss for Dutch and European baseball.
RIP.
Every winter he used to give catcher training to the youth teams playing in Amsterdam. Rip coach.
