Not surprising. Too risk adverse to get anywhere fun
5 blues were listed in the top 35 trade candidates by the athletic recently. Faulk, thomas, binnington, schenn and kyrou. In that order, was a little surprised to see thomas on that list but i am all for it, dude clearly doesnt hate to lose
What a complete mistake
If that’s Schenn w/ no retention for both then Doug is genuinely a stupid human being. Schenn’s contract goes till he is so very old
That’s such a huge miss.
It’s pretty telling that Toronto only saw Schenn as a 3rd liner.
They were going to give us two first round prospects for Brayden Schenn? And we didn’t take that offer?
It kind of made sense to turn that down last year considering that team got hot. A similar trade offer this season should absolutely be accepted.
I was always under the assumption that Schenn wouldn’t waive his trade clause
Word is this reporter is full of shit.
This is one of those trades you make in Chel, but not in real life. For us, it’s simply assets for assets. Dust your hands and walk away.
But for Army & the club, that’s your captain and team identity. Thats a Stanley Cup champion that has experienced the greatest turnaround in league history. Schenner knows how to lead thru adversity while keeping veterans engaged and youngsters hungry. That’s a challenging skillset to evaluate, hence why it’s viewed as a premium to most GMs.
Personally, I am more afraid of having zero identity from a leadership position, than seeing Schenn age into the bad years of his contract.
Schenn didn’t want to waive his no trade clause
bruhhh
It’s really amazing how much this sub has flipped. At the deadline last season and over the offseason you’d get called an idiot and downvoted into oblivion for suggesting a trade of the captain.
Now consensus seems to be Armstrong is the worst GM ever for not making this trade.

There have been plenty of reports that Schenn would not waive his no trade. That he didn’t want to give up on his teammates. So the offer doesn’t really matter.
It’s always been said that Schenn was the one who wouldn’t waive and believed in the group last year.
As far as I can tell, this is coming from Kypreos, and so should probably be taken with a big grain of salt. He doesn’t exactly have a reputation for nuance or reliability.
Though I’ll say, if this is true and it wasn’t about Schenn being unwilling to waive, this feels like a pretty major blunder. There was talk of shipping Schenn at last year’s deadline, and this would have been a great return even without the benefit of hindsight.
If true: Fuck my life.
JFC everyone. It was widely reported that schenn didn’t want to waive his NTC last deadline and that army had a deal in place. What’s he supposed to do put a gun to his head and shove a pen in his hand? I must be old because one of the first things we learned in school was don’t believe everything you read.
Did he refuse or did Schenn? (No trade)
Had to be Schenn, I can see no other reason to not make this deal.
Why is this a whoops? He’s a winger with 5 goals on the season. We have enough wingers for the near future. The other guy is still in juniors. Schenn is a bonafide leader and got us to the playoffs.
If this is true and it wasn’t that Schenn wouldn’t waive, I want Armstrong fired. That’s inexcusable
If this is true , what a mistake…
Oh yeah , I believe it wasn’t Army who was balking…Schenn refused to waive his NTC….
Hockey journalism = unsubstantiated gossip.
Picture of text with no source. Wtf is this.
Everybody relax. We’re right in the middle of a rebuild. Did you actually expect for these kids to be a whole lot better at this point? Expect them to take a year or two to build some experience, confidence and momentum. A handful of the guys we’re gonna need are still in the minors. Gonna be rocky for a little bit.
I just got off the phone with Schenn. It was for Tavares and Matthew’s. But we had to retain some on Schenn and thats why it didnt happen
Going to be brutally honest, I am not sure that would have been a good trade for us? I don’t currently believe Cowans ceiling is above 3rd liner, and there has been nothing outstanding in Danford’s development.
Ummm reluctant to move dead cap space, or that Toronto was asking us to hold onto too much of Schenn’s cap?
