[Gonzalez] Sources: 9 MLB teams end deals with Main Street Sports Group

  1. First off i cant say TV without my post getting auto mod removed and suggested to post in the mlbtv reddit group, which this post is not about! I’ve had more post auto removed from this group than everything else combined!!!

With all the teams that just dropped fanduel, and if MLB assumes broadcast rights, I still feel its hard to sell weekly national baseball on tv.

The reason is pitching. I have no doubt a Dodgers-Pirates game with Ohtani and Skenes pitching would easily be a Saturday or Sunday national broadcast woth good ratings and hype…but you cant plan pitching starts for the whole year. This game can easily become a Dodgers rookie vs a 3rd starter on Pitt and suddenly nobody cares about this game.

This is the main reason a national MLB network deal wont work like NFL or NBA…. everyone will still watch a bad NFL game or NBA game cause they know all these stars will be playing (barring injuries)

Is there a way for MLB to make sure their games are always elite and want to be watched for national broadcast?

  2. I’m just going to assume this leads to more costs to watch baseball on tv. I had to spend an extra $30 a month starting two years ago because xfinity decided that pittsburgh sports net belonged in a higher package because “most people that watch this have a higher package”…. just so my grandma could watch the lousy Pirates do lousy Pirates things.

Ya’ll remember the NFL put in Thursday Night Football on the NFL Network and you couldn’t watch the game unless you had NFL Network or were in the local market? Shit we had it good then and we didn’t even know it. Now it’s upgraded package for most* games and half a dozen streaming services for the rest.

I still get a kick out of the regional sports fee on my xfinity bill. Never tells me how much I saved by not being able to see games on streaming platforms.
