Why the Canucks MUST draft Gavin McKenna….

The Vancouver Canucks are in tank mode. With the race for the NHL first overall pick between Gavin McKenna, Ivar Stenberg and Keaton Verhoeff heating up, the question has become who deserves to go first overall? In this miniseries dissecting the three players I will discuss who I believe should take the top spot and who the Canucks should take if they are fortunate enough to finish with the first overall pick.

  1. 2 things that most forget or wont acknowledge here:

    1) Canucks will be screwed out and over anything that resembles a draft pick that would land Mckenna or any player that goes as the #1 pick.

    2) Mckenna is not at all cracked up to the hype we got as he used to be from what hes shown this season against any kind of top tier opponents, World juniors just proved that!

there's perhaps 4 players that are without a doubt distancing themselves from Mckenna for top spot right now, and Canucks would be foolish to focus on just Mckenna…If he ever gets big league ready it wont be for 3-4 years hes go time for the NHL…still has a lot to build physical and development wise

  2. To be realistic, I would be happy for us to draft Tynan Lawrence (C) at #3/#4. We all know the best we are getting in this draft is #3😂. Canucks don’t win lotteries

  3. Hm, so to fulfil his potential, we'd need to surround him with some elite finishers? where have i heard that before… but yea, i understand, but can hope the organization can do that change that history…

  4. Knowing management with the call from ownership, they will pick someone off the board or another Swede. Hate to say it, but the canucks will find a way to screw up.

  5. Nah. Gavin McKenna is a weak skater. He will not do well in the NHL. What does Sidney, McDavid, MacKinnon, Celebrini or Schaefer all have in common? They are all good skater. That's why McKenna is having a tough time in the NCAA.

  6. It’s a fun debate everyone likes to have but honestly if you don’t pick 1st overall, then you default to you next best. Will be interesting to see if they pick the top D guy if he is available or the center who is ranked lower.

  7. McKenna is going to be good don’t get me wrong he reminds more of a Kane type player he will need good two way player type player just like Kane played with Toews Hossa Sharp Saad Handzus

  8. In my dreams, the Canucks pick first overall and get McKenna, if we pick second it’s Stenberg, and third pick is Tynan Lawrence not Verhoeff cause an elite center prospect is what this Org also needs

  9. I can't get my hopes up any more for the Canucks getting a break in the draft lottery. We're one of only a few teams to never get a #1 pick

  10. It's alarming that there's doubt about Gav going 1st overall. The talent is there, but you hope he doesn't end up as a Shane Wright where there was so much hype of him going 1st overall but he slid to 4th instead, and Shane's not putting up insane points atm…

  11. Genuinely what I saw from world juniors is that McKenna needs to puck on his stick, if not he’s invisible. Stenberg on the other hand is a dawg. He looks like an NHL player right now. Not to mention the ridiculous numbers he’s putting in the SHL as an 18 year old.
