Broberg signs 6-year extension with Blues | St. Louis Blues

  1. Genuinely a steal at 8 mil AAV, I can not believe they got that. I know they sacrificed on term, but 6 years still gives us a few seasons UFA.

Personally I’d up the AAV to get max length just because of the direction player contracts are going but I assume the agent has the opposite idea. Darren Farris loves getting his guys to UFA so I see this as a win.

I want to know what trade protection he’s got during the last two years, but if all goes well it shouldn’t matter.

  2. I was anxious about when this deal would get done. Glad they got 8M and not 9-10M like some of the star defenseman are looking for as the cap rises.

  3. Absolute steal, have him until he is 30. Capturing at least 3 years of his prime.

Think I know what jersey I’m getting next

Ope. Here before the ā€œArmstrong sucksā€ comments. I’ll wait.

  5. Holy cow. Was hoping for 7-8 years at $9m-ish but this is excellent. Hope he’s a Blue for his entire career. Good work Army.

  6. Good lord what a steal. With they would’ve done 8 while they still could though! Honestly can’t complain with the AAV!

  7. I’m always surprised by guys willing to sign when things are going very poorly. I didn’t think Buch would be willing to sign with us either. What do y’all think it is? Do they see the plan? Is STL truly a good place to be?

  8. Would’ve rather it been max term but regardless I’m very happy to see a long term deal done.

  9. I know this thread is about #6. How do we feel about 81? Do we sign him like this? Myself Im a little worried as he tends to get hurt ALOT. Whats are your thought’s?

  10. Incredible contract! Thomas and Kyrou will still be the highest paid players (by AAV) on the team absent additional signings. I’m even more curious now what Holloway will get.

  11. I’d often discuss with friends (and [sometimes comment on Reddit!)](https://www.reddit.com/r/stlouisblues/s/0sdZyGj6ef) that after the wave of other young, LD extensions, that his cap ceiling was basically $9mm so I’d live with it and anything under that, but it’d be amazing to keep our internal player cap (8.125) intact. But I didn’t expect that to actually happen!

    (I know, it’s 6 years and not 8, but still. I’m stoked!)

  12. 8 AAV? Wow. I would’ve been happy giving him 10 or 11, he’s the kind of player that you get once a decade or so imo.

Genuinely awesome news and bodes well for the future, regardless of how this season pans out.

  13. That’s some good news. The man is a building block of what this team needs to be in the future.

  14. We’re due for a long term defenseman contract that doesn’t become a boat anchor, so I hope Broberg is the one to break the string of bad, premature signings. I’m optimistic for the guy’s future here.
