Jose Ramirez breaks silence on signing below market extension from Guardians: “I owe this city a lot. Since the day I arrived, I’ve never once been booed by these fans. I’ve seen how crowds in other stadiums treat players when results don’t come quickly, and that’s never happened here”

That was ultimately my decision, to take the extension. We went through a year and a half of negotiations, and when I finally signed, I got a significant salary bump. I knew it wasn’t fully reflective of my market value, and plenty of people made sure to point that out. But I’m a veteran, I understand how the game works.
Cleveland is a small market team, and they simply can’t pay me what I could command on the open market. So I told them, Let’s find a fair agreement that works for both sides.
I spoke directly with the GM. There were real trade discussions and offers from other teams willing to extend me at my full asking price, but my heart was set on staying in Cleveland. First and foremost, my children were born here. My wife feels comfortable in Cleveland and so do I. I owe this city a lot.

Meanwhile he sees his buddy Lindor underperform for 3 months when he first got traded to the mets and Mets fans still held grudges against him for years.
Every team needs a J-Ram on their team
He’s a good dude
A lot of people forget these players are human. Money isn’t the most important thing for some of them.
What a cool dude
There’s a man who has ensured he never will be booed in the future either.
He genuinely just likes living here. It’s really refreshing.
I love it when athletes stay with the team that they were drafted or signed to first, especially nowadays seeing that it’s so rare. We don’t get a lot of Jeters and Chippers today.
Good guy.
My estimation of Jose Ramirez as a man just skyrocketed
It’s really cool to see players repay their fanbase and city.
As a Tiger’s fan, man I love Jose Ramirez. Nothing but respect for this future hall of famer
Who is he talking about booing their own players?
“I owe this city a lot…” —- Humble and refreshing. What a cool dude. The [sports] world needs more Jose Ramirez’s.
As if I couldn’t love him anymore…he’s the real deal and we are lucky to have him in CLE 🥰!
Every team (well… almost every team.) deserves a Jose Ramirez.
He’s just so NICE. In every way.
BUILD THE STATUE, CLEVELAND
Dudes a real one. Good man and better boxer.
I love that man so damn much.
I fucking love that man
If there is someone who doesn’t love Jose Ramirez I think maybe just jail them for life as a precaution
This man deserves a World Series. Jose will never eclipse the legacy LeBron has in Cleveland, but in my eyes he’s right up there with him with how much he’s given to this city. Regardless if we ever win the last game of the season.
Love this, and I’m so happy for him that the fans treat him this way. It’s good when we remember that athletes are people too and, at the end of the day, it’s just a game.
As an Orioles fan, I think our fans are similarly supportive of all of our players, though we did have a trip up with Chris Davis and his performance vs. his contract.
That’s why Ramirez is so respected by all real baseball fans.
wow, good for you J-Ram, you Guards got a good one.

Class Act.
His family is set up for generations with average money management. Is he supposed to feel guilty that like his great x7 grandchild who won’t be born within the next 100 years won’t see it lmao
Guards got such a great dude with J Ram. Phenomenal player and a legit dude.

>I’ve seen how crowds in other stadiums treat players when results don’t come quickly, and that’s never happened here
Probably because they’ve made the playoffs in 8 of his 13 seasons? Like, they’ve been fine to good basically this entire time.
