Sources: Brewers “Moving Toward” Freddy Peralta Trade, with Yankees in Lead

Does Matt know we can acquire impact bats too or are we just expecting to win 1-0 every game?
I look forward to everyone being mad at the Brewers again while they build for the future
Oh boy clenching
I think most people deep down knew this would be the case with how the brewers operate. And although this is sad, this is the exact type of move that has made the brewers good every season for nearly a decade.
Arnold hasn’t given a reason to not trust him.
Edit; I’m looking forward to the fanbase who *always* complained peralta was never a true ace and didn’t go deep into games, complain that they trade him at peak market value.
Visiting Yankees fan- Trueblood have any credibility?
It’s the right move. The brewers rarely sell pitching at the wrong time and it’s foundational for keeping the team relevant
I’m very intrigued by what a package looks like. Pitching has been crazy expensive this off season
This is awful news. Can’t even keep our most reliable SP at $8 million to try to run it back to the LCS. Plus a draft pick when Peralta files for free agency. Awful management.

They owe us at least one blow out game in the season
I don’t doubt that they’re seriously considering moving Freddy but name-dropping a team in the article is interesting. The Brewers have typically operated pretty quietly with trades.
Freddy my beloved 🙁

Gil’s follow-up to his 2024 Rookie of the Year campaign got off to a delayed start when he suffered a lat strain in early March that sidelined him until early August. The right-hander understandably struggled in his first outing back but then fared pretty well during the remainder of the regular season, going 4-0 with a 2.68 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over his final 10 starts. A 41:33 K:BB across 57 total innings paints a less rosy picture of Gil’s performance and helps explain the vast difference between his 3.32 ERA and 4.63 FIP. Gil really struggled to get hitters to offer at his non-strikes, finishing with a chase rate that ranked in the first percentile leaguewide. His whiff rate also fell from 29.0 percent in 2024 to 21.5 percent last season, and his strikeout rate suffered a precipitous drop from 26.8 percent to just 16.8 percent. It’s likely that Gil’s extended absence contributed to his poor peripherals, though it remains to be seen if his out-of-nowhere ROY campaign ends up being his peak. The Yankees will be getting Gerrit Cole back next season and got promising campaigns from youngsters Cam Schlittler and Will Warren, so Gil’s spot in the rotation isn’t guaranteed.
This would make me sad, but gotta do what we gotta do.
I’ll take one Spencer Jones please.
Yes it’s sad. But I know we will find production elsewhere, and Freddy’s value is at an all time high
Baseball needs a salary cap
Long term this is for the best. For this year it sucks.
Peralta is an “erstwhile” ace?
Will be sad to see him go but this is the right time to do it. Freddy was great last season but he usually doesn’t perform like a staff ace, more like a #2 or #3. He’s been a great bargain though. He has easily outperformed his deal every year just about.
This reminds me when the Spurs tried to trade the number 1 pick(The Wembayama pick) for Austin Reaves. Thank god, the Lakers didn’t accept. Reaves is a stud
Don’t want to see Freddy go, but we got over on the Yankees last year with the Williams trade, so hope we can do it again.
Trust the process
Can we please not get fleeced AGAIN?
I don’t understand the emphasis on needing starting pitching in return. Woodruff, Priester, Patrick, Mis, Henderson, Gasser, Myers + whatever buy-low spring training invitees they can identify is a pretty strong group. Of course there is always room to get better, but I don’t see SP as glaring need has to headline the return on a Peralta trade.
If we trade him can it please please please be for an actual shortstop?
Pls not the yankees..
Im fine with a Peralta trade, he’s not a guy that wins in the playoffs anyways and that’d be the reason to keep a guy like that. Era near 5 in the postseason, not a big moment guy
Are owner could increase payroll & not buy another yacht…nah.
