The part that sticks out to me, in case you wanna just skim the article:

O’Connor confirmed that Schoen could “adjust his role” to secure Harbaugh and explained that the Giants’ GM is not getting in the way of the Harbaugh hire by any means.

“Joe Schoen was smart enough to survive 13-38 the last three years… He’s also smart enough to know if the same people who spared him now want to hire John Harbaugh… he’s not getting in the way of that.

“They may decide they have to make a change to make this happen, then they’ll do it. I think Joe Schoen is smart enough to adjust his role,” O’Connor shared.

  1. I mean his role ? He would become solely a contract guy with the GM title Lmaoo

  2. Say if the Giants do get Harbaugh and he still wants Chad Alexander or someone by his side in the org. If the other team allows it and the individual also agreed, you just have to put them in a higher position than basically assistant Gm right? or whatever position they have.

  3. Who wouldn’t? If Harbaugh can make them a winning team then JS can keep collecting a few million a season.

  4. It sounds like Harbaugh wants full roster control, typically when that happens the GM becomes the “money guy” who handles contract structure and manages the cap. So its possible we see Schoen keep his title but effectively be demoted.

  5. He should, and probably does, look at this as a great learning opportunity and a way to rebuild his reputation.

  6. I’m okay with Schoen being in the building if he’s, like, the vending machine guy now or something.

  7. Seems like a win-win. We get Harbaugh *and* the most experienced ball boy in the league.

  8. This would be the smartest move for him. Otherwise he’s dead man walking

If Schoen agrees to reduce or modify his role strictly so the giants can get Harbaugh I’d respect him bc at least he’s willing to put aside his pride for the betterment of his roster. Still would hate him but at least I’d respect him now

It wouldn’t make sense for him to not want an easier job tbh

  9. If the consensus is that the Giants are the best HC opening because of the talent on the team clearly Schoen has done a solid job. It’s a contradiction to think Harbaugh would choose this roster over any others and still claim that Schoen sucks

We saw through Hard Knocks and Giants life that he chooses players based on his coaching staff’s evaluation which makes it an even more attractive destination. There’s no reason for Harbaugh to dislike Schoen when any coach hired by the Giants will have a large role in roster construction

  10. Why do we, as a subreddit, continuously give credence to articles that pretend claims qualified by words like “could” and “might” are news?

  11. Honestly this is genius from Schoen, he had a great draft last year, if him and Harbaugh work together to have another solid one and the team sees major improvement he can point to it being a coaching issue, and likely earn himself an extension, Harbaugh can save his career

  12. Honestly, if I was Schoen, and I saw the writing on the wall, and I was offered a John Idzik style “manage the payroll job” why not stay? You get all the Teflon now, and you can stick around for the upswing. You look smart doing it too. No brainer for Schoen here.

  13. This is all just speculation. Neither the Giants nor Harbaugh have said anything about power distribution.

  14. So Harbaugh won’t accept the Miami job, because they didn’t hire his GM of choice, but he’ll take this job if Scheon gets demoted and they don’t hire his guy of choice?

I wait to see how this all shakes out, because the narratives around here are getting WAY too convoluted.

  15. to play devils advocate here for a second; Does Harbaugh deserve ‘full control’? Was that his role in Baltimore and does he have a proven track record of being able to make good decisions about the roster? I want him because he is a good coach that can bring leadership and stability to the organization and i think he is EASILY the top candidate, but is handing over full reigns necessary/good idea?

  16. Ravens fan here I’m genuinely curious if the Giants fanbase really actually want him there. I have been desparately wanting him fired since attending the 2024 AFC Championship game. I walked away feeling like I was somehow personally complicit in that trainwreck just by being there… I have too much respect for the Giants organziation from the Coughlin miracle SB runs to think Harbaugh is the guy your franchise deserves

  17. The Giants are the only team that has satisfied the Rooney Rule. Schoen moved quickly with that.
