  1. Very much overdue!! On a side note, Is the 16 being worn anymore or is it “unofficially retired” for Vlady?

  2. Heck yeah! He is one of my favourite players from my childhood. I travelled to Switzerland many years ago a watched him play in the Spangler Cup and checked a box on life things for myself.

  3. When the crowd started chanting Let’s Go Red Wings and Sergei was pumping his fist, I almost got emotional. Been awhile since we have heard the crowd that fired up. A sign of things to come!

  4. Now I need a new thing to bitch about as a 90s kid Red Wings fan.

Guess I’m full sending Osgood HOF arguments moving forward.

  5. Him and Yzerman were my absolute favorite players as a kid. So glad to finally see both their jersey’s in the rafter where they belong!

  6. Im assuming they’re gonna post the full ceremony on youtube after the game?  I wasn’t able to watch it live.

  7. Goosebumps seeing the cup in the arena. Suddenly feels like we are destined

On another note, mindblowing to see that yzerman’s number was retired 19 years ago.

  8. I started watching hockey when I was 8 years old in the 95-96 season. He was my absolute favorite player throughout the 90’s up until he left. So surreal that this finally got done.

  9. My 10 year old self is excited. Having moved from Mexico to Michigan, hockey was beyond new to me. Soon enough my love for the Red Wings grew as I was introduced to the winged wheel (late 90’s)…as I saw big starter jackets and jerseys worn all over the place, and of course started watching the games. Fedorov was my favorite player (Stevie and Lidstrom were also up there of course), sadly never went to any games as I believe my dad always had a hard time getting tickets (plus we are a numerous family and we always went to everything together, 4 children in our family…too expensive). The Red Wings were the first Detroit sports team I fell in love with. Congratulations Sergei!

  10. Haven’t been able to watch tonight, but it looks like they skipped the special jersey patch like they had for other ceremonies in the last couple decades?
