  1. According to a cursory look through the regular season standings, the last time the Wings had 60+ points on January 12th was 2008-09.

It’s not exactly a 1:1 comparison because we’ve played several more games than we had at this point in that season, but still, who’s down for a trip to the finals (even if it ends in heartbreak)?

  2. I love Larks but I’m starting to agree with the masses that he’s a diver.

His performance trying to draw a high sticking penalty during the 5 on 3 was bad.

  3. Also, more good news: with Buffalo’s loss last night, Tampa is now the only team that can surpass the Wings by winning their games in hand. Montreal would tie the Wings in points if they won their game in hand, but the Wings win the tiebreaker because they have 20 regulation wins to their 17. Everyone else in the Atlantic would fall short of the Wings’ points total even if they won every game in hand.

  4. Copp did nothing wrong. That was a *mild* net front battle for space, Canes player went down too easily

  5. Last night at tuck-in after the end of the 1st my twin girls asked my wife why did Daddy get sad when that old man (she loved this) was talking to everyone? Being the pro she is, she asked them how they’d feel if they didn’t see their heroes Elsa or Anna for a long time, they both said they’d be very sad. She said Daddy just got to see one of his heroes again after a long break and they both smiled and said they were happy. I don’t deserve this woman.

  6. So tonight we have:

    Detroit @ Boston

    Ottawa vs Vancouver

    Tampa @ Pittsburgh

    Montreal @ Washington

    Toronto @ Utah

Gonna be another one of those nights, isn’t it?

  7. just had a dream tbay made a trade of prospects for vet forward , with who wasnt mentioned

  8. The Rangers pulled a Lionel Hutz with their “No BS” slogan.

    They meant, “No! BS!”

  9. Great night in Red Wings land. Glad the current team gave the returning legends a good show.

  10. another day another John Gibson update:

    Since Dec 1

    13-2-0 // .930 sv% // 2.06 GAA // 3 SO

  11. Just a thought but with ASP being extremely limited in the 3rd period (basically benched) doesn’t that kind of attribute to the breakdown last night? He had under 10 minutes of icetime. Not saying ASP’s defense would’ve saved us from going to OT but taking away one of our Dmen for a whole period puts some more pressure on the remaining 5.

But who knows, it also could’ve hurt us more by putting him out there for that 3rd period.

  12. So everyone who said the Atlantic is a mid-off this season was fucking wrong.

The Avalanche, the supposed best team in the league, can’t even beat the Maple Lmaos. Mickey Mouse franchise.

  13. A childhood friend of mine had a baby 6ish months ago so I haven’t been able to talk Wings with him as much. Got another buddy into hockey 2-3 years ago but he doesn’t really appreciate the same stuff like Keats’ humor or the more sentimental moments. But I turned on the Wings’ ceremony last night and my gf showed up in a big way to watch with me. Gonna be riding that high for a bit

  14. I have been window shopping a Centennial sweater for at least a week or two. I need to make a decision. Native Michigander but I currently live in Kentucky so generally don’t attend games to wear it. Convince me one way or the other to make a final decision on getting one or not.

  15. Edvinsson was watching the replay of the crosscheck on Ghost with Mickey as they were getting off the ice, I can’t tell exactly what he says but I think it’s something along the lines of “needs to stay on his skates.” Then as soon as the replay shows him go down you hear “oh my god”

  16. Is it crazy to drop $$ and spontaneously go to tonight’s game if I send all my hard emails/as a reward for some hellish weeks…? 🤔 Just realized that they’ll actually be in town and it’s possible. Do we think they’ll be gassed?

  17. At least we’re not on the outside looking in. Imagine how frustrating it would be to win as many games as we are and still not make any headway in the wildcard race. Penguins have gone 7-3-0 and have lost ground. Buffalo had to win 10 straight just to sniff wild card 2. Gotta keep the foot on the gas but at least we have the slightest bit of buffer rather than having to makeup ground in this freakin gauntlet of a division

  18. I’m so impressed by all of Sergei’s interviews/speech yesterday. Very eloquent in the media scrum he did and his speech was tremendous. Very humble, very gracious, and overall just had me smiling the entire time I watched him.

What a moment for this franchise

As I have thought hard about my collection and narrowed my focus to help shed close to 1500 cards across all sports/players, one of the things I have sought out in recent months is jersey cards with multiple players who all have a strong importance to success for my teams. I found one with Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Reggie Wayne, Pistons cards of Chauncey/Rip and Ben/Sheed, and then a Red Wings card of Yzerman/Lidstrom to go with the Datsyuk/Zetterberg and the Seider/Raymond I had already. Fedorov had very few cards like this and I kinda wavered on it because the most logical pairing was Yzerman, but I had Yzerman with Lidstrom already. Shanahan was great, but not quite Fedorov or Yzerman great and never really had a player you associated him with who wasn’t already associated with someone else. Well, last night prompted me to look back at some Fedorov options and this one made a lot of sense with all three of those names on it, especially since they were the top line in 02. Excuse the watermark as I just bought it and won’t have it in hand for quite awhile while I wait to build up a big enough order to ship.

  20. I keep looking at the copp cross-check and honestly its soft. Every battle in front of the net looks exactly like that, and players manage to stay on their feet. Sometimes they call that, sometimes they don’t. It’s not a make-up call, its just a ref seeing an action as soft. Lord knows, we’ve had points taken away with worse calls.

  21. My husband went to the game last night and got a photo with the Stanley cup with a super cheesy smile. I set it as my phone background lol. I know he’s seen it in person before at a parade but that was obviously a while ago.

He said he was tearing up a bit during the speeches ( and he rarely cries). Fedorov was his fave player as a kid.

  22. I love the Wings and I know Carolina is a great team, but the 3rd felt like deja vu of the Calgary game from December.

Gibby coming off a shut out is perfect in the first two while the Wings build up a decent lead. Then they get cocky? sloppy? let up pressure? run out of gas? whatever. Then they hang Gibby out to dry for 3 goals against in the 3rd. The big difference is they had 4 on Calgary and only 3 going into the 3rd last night.

If they have more streches of 5 periods in a row without a goal against I suppose I can’t complain but you don’t like to see third period collapses no matter what the situation is

  23. One thing we’re doing underratedly well this season is playing intradivisional games.

We’re 8-3-2 in-division, which is a division best, although I don’t know a quick and easy way to check how many loser points we’ve allowed.

  24. Man, yesterday was kind of surreal. Seeing Sergei on Detroit ice again, banner in the rafters, AND beating the Canes made for a great night.

  25. Hmmm ok

So seeing as how there is a game tonight, they are holding off on the big news until after that.

A big trade is coming down the pike.

  26. 4 wins in a row. If we win tonight then I’m convinced we’re the next 10 win streak Atlantic team. It’s gotta be our turn

  27. So Larkin…not the best game last night. Turned the puck over that lead to a shorty and later on made dam near the same play that lead to another odd man shorty.

He’s gotta be better than that. And I know Carolina’s PK is unique with that pressure but in the post game Todd said he was most disappointed with the powerplay because they had discussed and prepared for that.

  28. Bruins also playing their 3rd game in 4 nights. Here’s hoping that Larkin line can get going. LGRW!
