“This Is On Me” – Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald Takes Accountability For Team’s Struggles

  1. Fitz: “This is on me”

Also Fitz: “Every problem the fans have with me is not actually a problem”

  2. Takes accountability but immediately walks it back and shows that he’s incapable of learning from his mistakes. I don’t think my opinion of Fitz could go any lower.

  3. Problem is Fitz almost never does anything in season. Only the off-season, so there’s almost no hole of anything turning around currently and the seasons a wash because ownership won’t do anything until seasons over either.

  4. I dont believe anything this man says. But yes this is on you,but your not gonna do anything so get out.

  5. Worth noting that when asked if Keefe’s job is safe, he said, “We are in lock step”, which isn’t exactly “yes”.

    It’s a start.

One thing that rubs me the wrong way though… right at the end, Fitz tells the media:

    >”Guys, I really appreciate this. This was good and I hope it helps. I hope I answered questions”.

Instead of telling them, “I appreciate the opportunity to clear up our strategy as a team and what we’re working on” etc etc, it sounds more like, “I came out here because I had to, so I hope you’re happy.”

  6. What the fuck does him “taking accountability” even mean? I don’t want him to be the one to try and fix this mess, we’re in this hellhole because of his flawed vision for how a roster should be constructed and a team should play. Bring in a new GM, I don’t want him making a single roster move for us again

  7. At least we know the front office does actually pay attention to what the fans have to say.

  8. He is just so slow to react. That’s not what you want in a GM. Even going to the press was too late. It’s my biggest problem with him. And there are many. He is either too scared or too hesitant or suffers from analysis paralysis. When people say 4 D chess. He’s barely playing checkers. He seems to only see the one move ahead.

Of course this is on him. He signed these players. He gave the NMC and NTCs. He waited too long for one goalie. Then he waited too long for another goalie. He doesn’t realize if you make a mistake you don’t have to keep doubling down. Sometimes recognizing that mistake and moving on is better.

I need this ownership to not let him mess up this trade deadline. He needs out now. Let someone else make small moves and get a new outside GM in the summer. Our core is close to missing the playoffs again. This is becoming a trend.

  9. “It’s on me… but also, I fully believe in the core and the coaching staff and everything is great and players coming back from injury are the same thing as trade acquisitions, so don’t expect me to do an ounce of legwork in the way of trades or a major shakeup! Have a nice day!”

Fitz needs to go yesterday. That presser was DEEPLY concerning.

  10. I honestly found this whole presser depressing. And this “we see you and hear you” stuff is infuriating.

  11. This all just feels like a hopefully they won’t start a “fire fitz” chant against me now tonight type of presser , especially after rags fans did it for drury during their last home game

  12. Boo this man out of the building tonight. Make him feel hated. #nothingbutdickheads tonight.

  13. He lives in a fantasy world where he doesn’t look at the standings, guys coming from injuries are like trade acquisitions, NTC and NMC are no problem, core is great, coaching is great it’s all beautiful.

What a moron piece of shit GM and we stuck with him for a while and dont expect any changes because it’s all great and beautiful.

  14. Fitz needs to be fired before he makes a panic move that thrusts us behind even further. Please do not let this guy put his hands on any further transactions.
