[Passan] The Red Sox’s first signing of the winter is a big one — $130 million for Ranger Suárez — and gives them a ton of rotation depth with Garrett Crochet, Sonny Gray, Brayan Bello and others. Boston now will turn to adding another bat to its lineup, but that rotation is excellent.

  1. They really are putting a ton of pressure on Roman Anthony to be a 5-6 WAR player right now. I think he is, but god damn it would’ve been nice to just get a power bat behind him.

Maybe E. Suarez can land on a good deal? I could live with that after getting Ranger.

  2. His savant page has a whole lotta red. So ok, great, we have probably the best or second-best rotation in baseball.

    Now, who’s playing 2nd and 3rd?

  3. Interesting signing. I like the player but dare I say we have too much depth in the rotation. We will need to move a starter for a bat and we just don’t have the leverage you would like at this point.

  4. Ranger Suarez is disgusting. I’m MUCH happier with him over someone like Cease. Our rotation’s gonna be stacked.

  5. This rules, still hoping we’re in the running for Bichette too but don’t want to get my hopes too high

  6. They need to go knocking down Arizona’s door doing what they can to get Marte back on the market.

If Early and Tolle were holding up negotiations, they need to be reopened.

  7. So we now have a top 3 (if not the best outright) rotation in the league. Bang.

Let’s move an outfielder and a prospect for a big bat and get to work.

  8. Holy cow! Guess we’re winning a ton of 1-0 games! Let’s go!

Would love to see a trade for a pitcher for a bat nobody predicted.

  9. Doomers 9/11

Love this move. Might have the best rotation in the league. Still a ton of flexibility to add a bat through a trade.

Can you clowns please shut up now with your non stop whining? Thats two years in a row where I’ve been told the season is over in January.

  10. Right after missing out on Fried, we immediately pivoted to Crochet.
Right after missing out on Bregman, we immediately pivoted to Ranger.

Guys I figured it out, we just have to have a monumental disappointment before the big moves can take place.

  11. That’s the wrong Suarez!

It’s great to see a legit front line starter on the team to pair with Crochet. Lets add bats though, we can’t allow the rotation to be like Skenes where you get no run support.

  12. I’m glad they did something, and if last yrs playoffs told us anything it was as it always was you can never have too much pitching.

  13. Craig is somehow 2 moves away from a great offseason. Trade for 2B/3B, must have good defensive value to help Suarez and then a LHP reliever

  14. I’m … surprised. This is a great signing. Lots of pressure on Roman to produce big this season. Would be nice to see them go after Bichette still

  15. Man when you can have a guy like Bello as your #4 that’s one hell of a rotation, this takes pressure off him too to continue his progression

  16. Breslow: “Why has no team just simply tried not allowing any runs all season? Are they stupid?”

will miss Ranger Danger dearly. the dude’s got ice in his veins and he can PAINT. he was my favorite pitcher on the Phils so i hope you guys cherish him

  18. As a Phillies fan im bummed Ranger is a delight and a deadly big game pitcher his stuff is filthy and consistent. nothing intimidates him on the mound and he’s a good energy clubhouse, fan friendly guy.. You got a good one.. congrats

  19. I am excited to see how rotation/bullpen plays out. I am assuming as of now the vision is Crochet, Suarez, Gray, Bello, Early with Tollé, Crawford and Oviedo in pen?

  20. We have the best lineup in the AL!

This just a few years since Corey Kluber’s ghost started for us on opening day.
