Good morning, today is January 15th! 48 days to the World Baseball Classic, 36 days to spring training, 69 (nice) days to opening day. I hope I got these right.

The Mets are piloting a Book Drive, powered by the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, to benefit Queens Public Library on Thursday, January 15 from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM at the Mets Team Store. 1. Tucker signing with us today would make this a very good past 24 hrs for us Giants/Mets fans

  2. 10 years is a little rich for my blood re: Tucker. Ill be bummed if we miss out on him, but I’m mentally ready for it and I’m currently more interested in seeing what the pivot is

    (Probably cope)

  3. So the reports yesterday were Blue Jays are willing to go to 10 years, and its likely the Mets gave him a 4th year.

Either there is a colossal AAV gap, Tucker really doesn’t want to live in Canada, or they’re just waiting for the ink to dry on the contract that makes him a Blue Jay.

  4. IDK I always laugh when ST location is cited as a driving point for a major FA.

Like I understand WHY someone would care. It’s a 6-7 month season, if you have 1-2 months where you can just live at home and drive to work and get extra family time it’s nice. Moving, buying or renting a house sucks etc I get all of that. For even mid-range FAs I can understand it being a tiebreaker at worst.

But these real top level guys I just don’t really see it. It seems like more of a nice bonus vs a “yeah I’ll leave $40 million on the table so I don’t have to move for 2 months”

  5. If we miss out on Tucker, it would make a lot of sense to immediately turn around and ask the Blue Jays about Barger and/or Lukes.

Unless the Blue Jays are bailing on Santander, which teams never do one year into a 5 year guarantee, they aren’t going to have the space to play all of these guys.

  6. John Harbaugh to the Giants reminds me of David Stearns to the Mets. A franchise in disarray brings in a guy who’s had success in the same role in another organization with a long runway to turn the organization around and bring stability.

We’ll see how fast the fans start to hate Harbaugh 😆

  7. If we dont get Tucker I say we just let kids play and have a transition year. Its not ideal, its a wasted Soto/Lindor year, but I dont see other great options that lets us be super competitive. Dont want to sell the farm to just be OK.

  8. Rose and Plouffe talked about Tucker yesterday and compared his baseball mentality to Anthony Rendon…said Tucker has “Anthony Rendon Syndrome”….I honestly don’t really want him.

  9. Trying to be optimistic but the vibe from this reporting feels like he’s trying to get the Dodgers to increase last minute and if not he’s a Jay

  10. If the Mets lose on Tucker and the Phillies get Bichette I might actually just have to check out until opening day

  11. Very interested in seeing what the Jays offer is if 10 years wasn’t immediately signed. Makes me think it’s under $400mil.

  12. “Next year’s class is headlined by Nico Hoerner and Jazz Chisholm Jr. — good infielders, for sure, but not likely to be contending for MVPs. The year after that, catcher William Contreras stands as the best available bat. It isn’t until after 2028 that a talent comparable to Tucker in Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson has a chance to hit the open market — if he doesn’t sign an extension before then, of course.”

If we don’t get Tucker, hope our prospects pan out – market for bats looking bleak for the next few years.

  13. According to my sources: Kyle Tucker will sign a deal with a team after the two parties have agreed to terms and not before that happens.
