I would be a fan of this hire. Someone young and exciting to build around, would be curious who he would attract as coordinators however.
Poach an offensive mind from arguably the best coaching tree in NFL history?
Yes please.
The question is, will he do the playcalling entirely? Or if he’s HC will he delegate it to the OC?
What’s known he’s moreso the architect and draws up the plays that McVay calls.
Don’t get me wrong, he seems like an amazingly talented offensive mind, but if he gets the HC position, we need to know if he can handle being in the big chair running the whole team.
Never a head coach. I guess he check the box for “not a re-tread”.
But he is an untried HC. That’s a concern for me.
I think the only way the Raiders get one of these ‘next big thing’ offensive guys like Webb or Scheelhaase is if they are a year early on them. If they take an OC job and knock it out of the park the Raiders will have missed their opportunity. I’m OK with taking the gamble with one of these guys if Spy (and Brady) thinks they’d be good for Mendoza.
I want him or Webb if Spytek is swinging for the fences.
