Tampa Bay Times says HCC is the Rays site of choice. They hope to come to a binding agreement with HCC next week. Financing isn't done (gonna take a lot more talking with the city, county and state for that part) but it looks like both HCC and the new ownership are on board. HCC also has a vote next week.

  1. Yessssss! I gotta admit, for selfish reasons, like the 10 minute commute, I love this location.

  2. And possibly making this a destination site, like shops and restaurants

could be a boost to RayJay events

I also wonder if the Glazer family would want to eventually develop their land between RJS and One Buc Place. Imagine all that developed with shops, a new HCC, restaurants, hotels, small concert venue etc. They own the land that was the Tampa Bay Center. It was torn down in 2005 and part of that land is where One Buc Place is. But all that land is just empty lots and would also be a great space for development.

  4. Man I was really hoping they would kick out the Amazon regatta at the dog track and build it there. The only push back would be the poker room and they could just host it inside the stadium. It’s even almost a waterfront view…

  5. Perfect placement, holy crap. Sounds like a beneficial move all around, if they can make it work.

My only objection is the proximity to Steinbrenner. Feels weird being walking distance to your biggest rival’s spring training facility, but hey, what can ya do.

  6. They’re going to need to add a lot to that area to make it a true destination, but it sounds like that’s what they’re planning.

  7. Oh good. Instead of DTSP with everything there we’ll go to the middle of nowhere with nothing there. But I’m sure the attendance will go up 🙄
