Edit: ppg means points per game streak sorry if wasnt clear. Highest points per game This is honestly the best modern-era stretch we’ve ever seen.
When you line it up historically, only Gretzky and Lemieux are actually ahead of him — everyone else falls away once you factor in context.
What makes it even crazier is that McDavid is the only player on this list post-2000. He’s doing this in a completely different NHL:
Salary-cap parity
Elite goaltending
Structured, system-heavy defenses literally built to stop him
A 2.30 PPG stretch today isn’t the same as 2.30 in the 80s either. Adjusted for era, that’s roughly 2.7+ PPG back then.
We’re watching something that basically shouldn’t be possible in this era — and he’s making it look normal. https://records.nhl.com/records/skater-records/scoring-streaks/longest-consecutive-point-streak

Ranks 6th with only 2 people ahead of him…..
** *looks at fingers and try’s to count* **
Is this that new math they’re teaching in schools???
It literally says he’s ranked 27th currently though??
Wut
I’ve never heard of a PPG streak before. Is that different than a point streak somehow? How can you have a streak of a per-game stat?
Gretzky’s dominance deserves a note.
He’s first with 51 games. Mario’s second with a more than respectable 46. But Wayne’s also 3rd, 4th, and 7th. Wayne’s got four spots in the top ten and seven in the top 20. Every time someone mentions an outstanding performance (and McDavid’s perhaps the best offensive player of all time), it’s amazing how often Gretzky’s shadow simply looms over everything.
It took one read, and instantly released the other two must hold the other records. Good on Connor, he is hands down the best player of this generation.
This is the dumbest thing I read today
Whatever, he needs to reach 25 straight games at least. Otherwise this is one of his least impressive feats. And in those coming 5 games score 14 points. He would still only be 12th on the list but beat Crosby and 60 points in 25 games would look cool.
The best modern era stretch for me is his playoff PPG in the last 4 seasons with 1.71PPG. That is closer to the best ever all things considered.
