[Twitter] Montour activated from IR, Melanson to Coachella
January 15, 2026
LFG. I know it's a game time decision, but glad to see him back.
Sad to see Melly go, surprised that Winterton wasn't the one waived down, TBH

Aw man. This is awesome but Melanson was doing good work.
Bummer for the boy that’s been working hard for sure. Love me some Monty though
They use Winterton on the PK, and he’s been able to slot up with Catton and Wright when needed. More tools in his bag, even though Melanson has been fun to watch. Imagine we’ll be seeing Melanson back up sooner rather than later.
Very surprised it was Melanson who got sent down.
Should have been Kartye honestly. Bad contract.
I’m really surprised people are surprised we didn’t send down a guy who has been on our PK all season.
Really should have been Oleksiak traded
Dunn/Lars
Lindgren/Montour
Evans/Fleury
Mahura
Oleksiak should have been the odd man out with the way he’s played the last 2 seasons
Melanson brings a lot of energy that we need on that 4th line – this wasn’t the answer
Fuck, gunna miss Melly until we get him back.
Amazing to have Montour back
I have a feeling this will be a short stint in Coachella for Melly. They will have to move one of Fleury/Mahura/Oleksiak so carrying all 3 on the active roster for now is fine IMO.
Thrilled to hear about Monty! If he plays tonight I’ll wear his sweater.
Sad about Melanson because he’s been just fabulous for us, but I know we’ll see him again. Depth is a good problem to have.
Apparently a bunch of Melanson fans from Nova Scotia here (in Boston) are pissed. They came to TD Garden to watch their boy.
Sad Melanson went down but on the up side, I’ll get to watch him next week in person down in the valley.
This is messed up. Everyone’s been talking about melanson. He’s made waves around the league. To the point other teams were cheap shotting him to get him out of the play. He’s been the hardest working guy on the ice week in and week out. And when he’s out there it incentivizes the rest of the team to match his energy level. Wrong decision, mark my words his absence will be felt in the coming stretch.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we’ve been losing games since changing up the fourth line. They should keep Melly, Meyers and Wints together even if it means sitting one of our other bottom 6.
So correct me if I’m wrong but the only players that could be reassigned without waivers are: Winterton, Melanson, and Wright.
I’m sad (and honestly surprised) that it was Melly who got sent back down to CV but I understand it. I figured it’d come down to Melanson or Winterton and while I feel like Melly has a great presence (shaping up to be Yanni Gourde 2.0) I think Winterton is more well rounded and easier to slot in where needed. Granted Wints has been plying with the kraken longer than Melly so maybe that’s why. Any case, there’s still a lot of hockey to be played and I’m sure we’ll see Melly again soon (hopefully not due to an injury!)
Not surprised the first guy out was Melanson and I said so on a post a few days ago on this topic.
Let’s hope Montour is in the lineup tonight!
NOOOOOOOO keep Melanson bench Ryker!!!! 😭😭😭😭
Love that Montour is back. Sending down Melanson has nothing to do with his play. It’s just a numbers thing. I have a feeling Melanson will be back after the trade deadline.
If it had been Winterton was sent down another team could steal him like we stole Tolvanen. No such worry with Melanson.
