I just woke up from a six year coma. How’s zadina doing?
We’ve come a long way. It took a long time, but our cupboards aren’t fucking bare anymore.
This is why I don’t have any real qualms moving a prospect in deals as we improve at this stage. Odds are a bigger portion of our top 10 (or however many) prospects than we’d like to admit won’t pan out.
Ah yes, Albin Grewe…
Poor Svech.
We need to remember these types of things 6 years from now when we’re looking back on how we talk about today’s top prospects. Hindsight is always 20/20 and nailing prospect development is difficult.
For example, it wasn’t long ago that people were eviscerating Cory Pro man for suggesting that Veleno was a 3C type of player with an absolute ceiling at 2C on the right team (and to be fair he’s not even the low end of that so not like Cory nailed him either).
That Seider kid did okay.
That document did not age well.
God I feel like Joey fucking V was so much older.
1 out of 10 ain’t bad, I guess….
Seider is the first Yzerman first round pick on here. He started with a home run.
Why did I think Veleno was 35 years old
Honestly, and everyone wonders why the rebuild is taking so long
Seider being Seider is so worth everything else here not working out
You put expert in quotes, but I bet you most lists from people who know hockey would have looked similar in 2019. People try their best to predict the future and it doesn’t always work out, but hindsight is always 20/20.
Honestly, the fact that they ranked Seider so high so soon after he was drafted suggests that The Hockey News actually knew what they were talking about
McIsaac still on Chel rosters though and bringing physicality
I remember spending a lot on a military game worn Zadina jersey. Yes, im the one that won that Red Wings Auction. Best dust collector ive purchased yet!
wow no zach nastasuik??? awful list
Bergers referred to as “intense, fast” lol
This shows how prospects are just that until they can prove something at the NHL level. It is something as a long-term fan I have been forced to learn. It is also why it is strange to see people balk at potential trades for high end talent at positions of need for prospects. I know we like our players, but sometimes there are better players and prospects unfortunately are the currency to acquire such players.
I always find myself coming back to Ken Holland’s “rebuilds take 10 years” commentary near the end of his tenure.
Obviously many teams have proven that wrong. But yeah, when you draft the way him and Tyler Wright did those last few seasons, you end up with a 10+ year rebuild, and here we are. Unforgivable.
Fitting the first pick of Yzerman’s tenure has gone on to be a foundational piece.
And to think this was the supposed strength of the organization… And people wanted Yzerman fired.
