3 way trade involving angels. We get Josh Lowe

  1. This is actually a good trade for us. I like Burke, but selling high on a reliever for a solid, much needed lefty hitting outfielder.

  2. Actually love that move…Burke was a solid arm, but nothing special, Perry still shows signs of being a great GM, just wish he wasn’t such an ass

  3. Needed a lefty bat in the lineup. I like the trade. I will like this even more if they still sign or trade for a true CF.

Also, I hope Tucker just signing with the Dodgers lights a fire under grandpa Arte’s ass to approve some more moves.

  4. Another trade has to be coming cause now we’re in the same place when we had Ward lol

  5. I like Burke but he was a waiver claim pick up for us. I think it’s more likely that he regresses a bit this year than repeat his success. As a regular starter he’s a 15/15 guy with 20/20 upside.

  6. Man that bullpen is really going to be a bunch of guys who can’t stay healthy and/or haven’t been good for 2-3 years.Ā

  7. I was like “why did we get Josh Lowe for replaceable parts?” and then I realized I forgot he was awful last year. But he’s under control until 2029, Burke is just OK, and Clark is kind of interesting but couldn’t crack /our/ top 40 prospects. So I really like this.

  8. Without any other context, that’s a good move for the Angels.

Lowe might not get back to his 2023 level (.835 OPS and 3.4 fWAR) but he could give you 1.5-2 wins, maybe. He’ll only be 28 on Opening Day and has three years of arbitration club control remaining, which gives them a nice window of potential upside or they could just move on.

The next obvious question: will they salary dump/straight up release Soler and target someone that can handle everyday CF duties? An outfielder configuration of Lowe and Trout/Soler in the corners and Adell in CF would be uhh … not good, even with Teodosio as a CF backup.

  9. i’m ok with this.

generally, relievers are super high variance from year to year, so trading a dude like burke who was gonna be a free agent after this season for a hitter with more team control is hard to pass up. and pomeranz is basically the same pitcher. i don’t think burke was enough of a difference maker to hold onto for a guy like lowe.

now, certainly lowe isn’t a sure thing to shine, but it seems like a worthwhile chance that a guy who had an OPS of .835 in his age-25 season might possibly return to that level. i mean, he might also just continue to hover at a sub-.700 OPS, making him exactly like a lot of other guys on the roster. but it’s not a bad risk to take.

what this does tell me is that, at least at this point in the offseason, is that the angels aren’t bullish on trout’s chances of playing the field much this season.

  10. Not sure how to react to this when at the same time coming to the realization we may have a multi-year lockout because of the fuckin Dodgers.

  11. This is the ā€œbigā€ move of the off season unfortunately. Without the TV contract and 1 yr contracts for the GM & coach.
