From 1999 – 2013, the Yankees had the highest payroll in MLB every year

Hal Steinbrenner took over this team starting in the 2008 offseason

From 2014 – 2025, the Yankees have led the league in payroll once

This despite leading the league in revenue (per CNBC)

After making it to game 7 of the ALCS, Hal cut payroll; the Yankees were 6th in spending in 2018

The Yankees are currently 5th in payroll. Again, they generate more money than any team in baseball

As always, F Hal

  1. The Yankees should spend more money. However its hard to argue that they should not have more WS for the amount they have spent. My bigger issue with Hal then spending, is and forever will be keeping Cashman. He finds ways to waste the $300 million he is given, which should without a doubt enough to win the WS.

  2. What changed here is that in 2012 a massive investment firm purchased the Dodgers and for the most part the Yankees have ended up sitting right behind them and more recently the Mets.

Once the Dodgers got purchased the Yankees no longer held the most spending power in the MLB, it has just taken a decade for everyone to realize that.

  3. $60 million a year for Tucker? He had an off year! And he doesn’t appear to be much of a leader.

Sure, Hal should spend more money, but this is ridiculous! It’s actually beyond ridiculous. It’s absurd.

The affordability crisis has spread to the Major Leagues apparently.
