Buck’s Beat: Why Klint Kubiak Fits What the Falcons Need

Buck’s Beat, hosted by Buck Belue, provided an update on the Atlanta Falcons’ head coaching search, which is being led by new team president Matt Ryan. Belue outlined why he believes the Falcons’ best path forward is hiring an offensive-minded head coach, pointing to Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as an ideal candidate. He discussed how Kubiak’s offensive approach could help maximize the Falcons’ talent on that side of the ball, while also emphasizing the importance of retaining defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to maintain continuity and stability on defense.

  1. I’m all in for Klint Kubiak. I wanted Harbaugh but didn’t want to get rid of Ulbrich. Had we gotten Harbaugh, Ulbrich is gone. So far this is working out in our favor depending on who we end up with at GM and head coach. I’m begging the football Gods…..please don’t let us mess this hire up 🙏🏿

  2. When Atlanta had three games left, I started telling people when Raheem Morris fired. But, I didn't realize Terry Fontenot and Rich McKay got fired and moved to another spot with the soccer team. And I started telling people we need an offensive HC(Head coach). And I started lobbying for Klint Kubiak. Because the landscapes are changing in the NFL .Younger head coaching with brilliant minds, teams like Seattle, Chicago, SanFransico, New England, Green Bay. I don't know who you are, but we think alike. I've been preaching about Klint Kubiak since early December.

  3. I keep hearing that Stefanski was the Falcons "2nd choice after Harbaugh." I'm not sure why Kubiak wouldn't be ahead of Stefanski at this point. Heck, Stefanski was on board with trading for and extending Desaun Watson just like Arthur Smith, Terry Fontenot and Rich McKay were. Do we really want someone who has that poor of judgement? It's actually even worse judgement since Watson only chose the Browns because they agreed to give him a fully guaranteed contract that even the Falcons realized was stupid. Heck, Matt Ryan would be the guy that would hire him and the only reason Matt Ryan demanded a trade before his final season is because the Falcons tried to replace him with Watson. What Stefanski and the Browns did was even worse. They weren't replacing a guy going into his final season. They were replacing Baker Mayfield. Then they offered a bigger trade package and a lot more guaranteed money to get Watson to boot. Why would the guy who demanded a trade for actions like that want to hire a guy who was on board with making even more egregious decisions for Desaun Watson than even the Falcons did? And I get that Stefanski wasn't the GM but anyone who thinks the Browns forced their head coach to take a QB he didn't want is crazy. Stefanksi was 100% on board with the Browns trading more than 3 first round picks and spending $230M fully guaranteed worth of cap space just to replace Baker Mayfield with Desaun Watson. Given the stage in Matt Ryan and Baker Mayfield's career, and the lesser money the Falcons offered, that is way more egregious than what Atlanta did when Ryan demanded a trade. Why would Ryan want to hire someone like that? Particularly if Kubiak's offensive scheme is a better natural fit and he just coached an offense to carry his team to being the best team in the league. Kubiak's Seahawks had the best record in the NFL and they outscored their opponents by more points than any other team in the NFL. Kubiak makes way more sense than Stefanski at this point. Period.

  4. The club needs that culture change. The crap of falling apart in the middle of the season shit has to go. Your gonna lose games at this level but the 3 , 4 or more losing streaks can't happen. Thats culture.

  5. we have pieces on offense that are in their prime but we need some blue flame wide outs to stretch the field. Id prefer a more traditional TE , blocker , move the chains type. Loved when we had that fullback our of the backfield threat. Zak Robinson had the most boring predictable offense ever created. He sucked. I want that halftime adjustment coaching on both sides of the ball. Too much talent being wasted on shity coaching. Last years special teams coach was a freaking joke. How did he even make it into the pros. Matty ice has had his congrats, its time to get to work changing the culture of middle of the season collapse.

  6. Kubiak is the next Kyle Shanahan. Son of a Superbowl winning head coach with great offensive play calling. And if he ever needed HC advice he always can lean on good ole dad
