Twins have 7% of the payroll of the Dodgers

  1. I still can’t figure out why the league (And players union) doesn’t establish a minimum and a cap. This shit is ridiculous.

  2. This is not “payroll” in the way it’s typically used. This is just total contract salaries they currently have on their books.

  3. That’s so fucking stupid! Major league baseball needs to fix this soon! At least we still have three major league sports teams in Minnesota. Cause I’m not paying attention to the twins until they’re relevant. And that sucks because I’ve been a twins fan my whole life.

  4. Man baseball is so frustrating. So much of this could be fixed with some kind of cap system. It’d spread out the talent and the money “evenly” between teams and make baseball competitive again. Fuck the Pohlads but what are they supposed to do? This is a massive MLB problem that’s never going to change.

  5. Yeah I’m a long term fan of the game but MLB has fucked it with their lack of fair play.

I occasionally will drop by and watch a legion game or an adult league and I remember what I enjoy about baseball but it’s no fun to watch MLB anymore.

I don’t even really blame the Pohlads other than they should get out of the business entirely if they want to make profit. Let someone run it at a loss who has enough money to accept what MLB is. Until that happens I’m on strike with MLB in general.

  6. MLB has played itself with all this. I’d this sport wants to be relevant again they need to address this massive imbalance.

  7. This isn’t even about the Twins, why does MLB even want this as the product? Like what is this even?

  8. Yeah, after hearing about the Tucker contract yesterday, I think I’m at the point where I stop watching or caring about major league baseball. Still love the sport but it is just ridiculous at this point.

  9. Everyone is saying the MLB is dead and this is going to kill them but the problem is they’re not. LA and New York are making so much money that it doesn’t matter if every other team tanks, MLB is still coming out ahead. And they’re perfectly happy with every other team just being a farm system for the rich teams. It might not get better until Ohtani retires and the Japanese market stops being obsessed with the Dodgers. But that’s assuming the Dodgers don’t just buy the next Japanese superstar, which at this point I’m going to say is a given. They really should have addressed this 10-15 years ago but like always, MLB is decades behind every other league and now it’s probably too late to do anything effective.

  10. I stopped watching baseball long ago because did this crap. It’s just not enjoyable. The product, including competition, sucks.

  11. If the Twins had the successful scouting like the Rays they might be more successful at the MLB level. Wishful thinking I know.

  12. small owners need to stick together and hold out for more revenue sharing. Shut it down for two years if necessary.

A big chunk of the league can’t compete, if they do strike lightning in the bottle once with a playoff run the players will all leave anyway.

Baseball is now a regional sport in part because of the payroll differences.

  13. Baseball needs a salary cap and floor, no team should be spending 7% of another teams total contracts.

  14. The Dodgers have built some of their contracts like annuity plans. The put a lump or a series of lump sums in an investment annuity for a payout in the future. They don’t publish the details.

Shohei Ohtani’s contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers is a 10-year deal worth $700 million, but it features a unique structure where 97% of the total amount is deferred. He will receive $2 million annually for the first ten years, followed by $68 million per year for the next ten years, allowing him to potentially save on state taxes in California.
