Idk how I’d feel about this. Loved him when he played for us. But his attitude and trolling during playoffs, especially towards Aho, quickly turned me off.
I been saying this since he left, I know he got paid more than we would’ve but he’s a 2C. He’s not the best 2C, but it could work.
Am I the only one still bitter about him saying he had unfinished business here, only to sign with the team that eliminated us just a few weeks later? Then went on to help eliminate us again in 2024? Idk just doesn’t sit right with me. Sure a few guys in the locker room may feel the same way.
Obviously a good player and would be an upgrade. Not so sure he’d even want to come back.

He is older now and has a higher AAV now than when he played here. As bad as we need a 2C we need a serviceable goalie. I think we could compensate not having the 2C if we had better GKing.
Some of y’all weren’t fans during the dark years when the FO routinely brought in older veterans over the offseason; and still couldn’t get a playoff berth. Based on what he wanted in a contract and what the FO offered him he chose to leave.
If NYR retains salary, I could be persuaded; or we need to shed enough salary to break even. In the deal and keep our cap space to sign other players like another goalie that is better than league average and also on an expiring contract within this season or next.
Depends on how PK comes out post surgery; Freddy can ride the pine or watch from the press box. And we ride Bussi and another goalie other than Freddy. Maybe Igor. I would rather have a better goalie if we are gonna overpay for a player.
This should be Freddy’s last season in Carolina. I like him, but it is time. Just like trading away Cam Ward. It was time. There is a reason the Leafs chose not to extend Freddy when he signed here.
