Elly De La Cruz turned down largest contract in Reds history

  1. He’s a Boras client, he was never re-signing here. This has been known since he came up. He will be a Dodger in a few years.

  2. Everyone knew he was never going to sign an extension here this isn’t news. Easy PR for ownership offering him 1/4 what he will get elsewhere and saying “we offered a club record contract”

  3. I don’t care if Cruz ends up being 10X the player Joey Votto was, our budget is small to ride everything on one player.

  4. I love Elly but he is not goin to be here long term. That’s smart from his end and I don’t fault him for it.

His enjoy it while it lasts!

  5. There’s a large gap between the previous largest contract and what he’ll probably end up signing for so this isn’t ruling out them low balling him

  6. We’ve known since the second he got called up he wasn’t signing here. Being a Reds fan sucks.

  7. Elite talent with options has zero interest in playing for the fans of Cincinnati.

Y’all keep believing it’s all about money and it’s not.

  8. Sell the team Phil.
    Sincerely,

A dormant fan who knew since 2012 that ownership could never keep up with the times with their wholesale grocery revenue.

  9. When was Votto’s contract signed? Contracts have gotten a little bit bigger since then. “Largest in team history” doesn’t mean much.

Wow, they offered him more than what they did a star player a decade ago. Great job!

  10. Love Elly, but he’s a defensive liability. He must clean that up or he won’t be worth a 10 year ext..

  11. I’m not writing him onto the Dodgers roster yet. Next offseason MLB is going to have to reinvent their economic system, and there may/should be an overhaul allowing the bottom teams to compete more equally. I read an article that when the Dodgers were sold in 2013 part of the agreement to prevent bankruptcy was to only include a small amount of their TV rights in the shared pool, meaning they don’t give as much as other big market teams even though they out-earn everyone else.

Some sort of competitive balance measures will undoubtedly take effect, and it may make an Elly re-signing possible. But not until he reaches Fa of course, because of Boras.

  12. Damn Cincinnati teams letting people go cuz their stupid selfish outlooks instead of the team/ fans

  13. Love me a good mouthpiece headline.

Elly’s going to have a larger net worth than Bob in 3 years

  14. He was a Yankees fan growing up and I rather think that is where he’ll go. If it seems likely that we will lose him, then a trade will have to be organized some time in the future.

  15. reds gm so bad at their job lmao, last spring everyone was already saying it was too late to give him an extension, the time had passed, the best time was after his rookie year. at this point there is no reason for him to ever sign one unless we overpay.
