The Kansas City Royals are increasingly unlikely to land either of the two hitters they pursued in trades: the St. Louis Cardinals’ Brendan Donovan and Boston Red Sox’s Jarren Duran.
Barring further moves, the Royals expect to rely heavily on offseason acquisitions Isaac Collins and Lane Thomas in their outfield, as well as rookie Jac Caglianone and holdover Kyle Isbel.
Though the Royals’ outfield production might remain below average, their infield of Vinnie Pasquantino, Jonathan India, Bobby Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia should again be one of the most productive in baseball, particularly if India bounces back.

Lol. Lmao even. Relying on a 28 year old rookie who got worse in the second half, a platoon bat who hit .160 last year, a once highly touted prospect that hit .157, and Kyle Isbel. Oh and Jonathan India too! All of that not to mention we’re just praying the pitching staff avoids injuries or doesn’t regress again.
Lazy as shit franchise content to waste years of a generational talent.
tbf their price was high, likely only Ragans or someone of that value would’ve done it, ofc with more thrown in as well.
Boo!!!
Y tho
But there were so many fan written articles saying the royals could possibly be interested!
Given what the real difference makers in FA were going for and the absurd asking prices both BOS and STL had for their players I’m glad JJ kept his powder dry.
As a small market team the margin for error is slim. I’ll take the marginal gains of Collins and Thomas over a huge overpay that ends up making you worse as a team.
I think JJ has done a very good job of threading the needle so far. I can’t think of any move he’s made that has blown up in any long term way.
