PARITY CRISIS: The Washington Nationals Are Impacted By Baseball’s AWFUL System

LA Dodgers shake up MLB’s balance with record deals—can teams like the Washington Nationals ever catch up? Ryan Clary spotlights the Dodgers’ $240M signing of Kyle Tucker and explores the impact of massive TV revenues on free agency, competitive parity, and salary cap debates. The episode contrasts big market powerhouses with mid-market clubs, bringing the Nationals’ end of the long-standing MASN TV dilemma into focus and asking if fair revenue sharing could level the playing field. James Wood rockets to the 53rd spot on MLB Network’s Top 100, but is that enough recognition for his flair? Ryan Clary weighs Wood’s prodigious power against talents like Elly De La Cruz and breaks down the Nationals’ fresh broadcast era, highlighting new faces and changes in coverage.

  1. It’s about time we got out of that terrible MASN deal. I hope they keep Dan as the PBP guy, and it is definitely not fair the way the Dodgers and other big city franchises have such an advantage over the small market teams. However, the Lerners have been famous not to go after players who can help them win now, and that needs to change.

  2. As for the broadcast team why not hire the Caray Brothers? Chris and Stefan. If you heard Chris' call of the Nick Kurtz 4 homer game you'd understand. Plus they fit the Nats strategy of not hiring people over 35 years of age.

  3. I’d like to see Dan Kolko have the privilege, and I’m certain he will regard the job in that vein. The DC-area has watched him describe the games and interview the players, coaches, and management in a highly professional manner for at least the past 15 years. I can’t think of another broadcaster with comparable experience covering DC area sports.

  4. If the MLB wants to continue to grow then they need to stop people from spending as much as LA and NY (both Mets and Yankees). It also needs to stop people from spending as little as Washington.

  5. The salary cap has always been a stupid idea. Big market teams will just offer the cap amount and small market teams will still refuse to spend. A salary floor is a good start, but the actual solution is to ban deferred payments and heavily restrict owners’ use of shared revenue, requiring them to use it on their team.
