[The Athletic] The Giants have sent an initial contract offer to John Harbaugh, and negotiations are ongoing. League sources said Harbaugh’s side want total clarity on who the coach will report to, and would prefer reporting directly to the owner, rather than to the GM, as he did in Baltimore.

  1. license plate guy on twitter claiming it’s done, he’ll be announced by 4:30pm and he’ll be at Brian Burns charity softball game

  2. I mean if the giants FO isn’t able to close the deal with Harbaugh because of their loyalty to a GM who’s roster just had 7 wins over 2 seasons while Harbaugh got 8 wins during a DOWN year for the ravens then I don’t really know what to say about this franchise. It would absolutely be time for new owners.

  3. Love that this is all getting leaked.

Either NYG FO gets a much needed reorg.

Or get absolute certainty ownership cares more about nepotism than winning, and I can invest my money and time elsewhere.

  4. Wonder if John is having bad flashbacks to his dad and his uncle fighting over who the coach reported to. It was a major cause of their rift and eventual sale of half the team.

  5. If John Mara was healthy right now, this would not be an issue. Because he’s ill, this is forcing them to work through who the coach (and GM) will report to — and who it will be if Mara can no longer function in this role. Everyone needs to relax. This is complicated. It’s going to get figured out.

Tbh, it’s better this question has come up because it is causing the family to work through som things.

  6. Whatever it takes to get this guy in the building and recreating the losing culture we’ve been forced to endure for too long.

  7. Who tf has been leaking all this info to the media this entire process? It’s annoying atp lmao, stop bothering me until it’s confirmed the contract is signed

  8. I hate this fucking nepo ownership with every fiber of my being. If they somehow fuck this hiring up and have to go with some shitty backup plan all cause the Mara’s are so incompetent and don’t know how to organize a business the NFL has to step in and make them sell

  9. I mean, fair. This could very well be the send off of his career; handshake agreements won’t cut it.

Still think it’s baby proofing against the Tims and Kevins of the org rather than Schoen, who seems thrilled to work side by side with Harbaugh.

  10. Tbf all reports are that JS has wisely bent the knee so this seems like it is more a hang up on ownerships and harbaughs side but this is the change that we are brining him here for hopefully we give him what he wants

  11. If I was Harbaugh I’d want that too, as a fan I want Harbaugh to have more influence on the decisions made to add or subtract talent which we get with him reporting to ownership

  12. The nepo babies and Schoen really don’t want to give up control lol. Mara and Tisch need to give into whatever Harbaugh is asking for. This could be a franchise altering hire.

  13. I don’t mind this approach considering some of the things we have heard this season about HC and GM not having clear lanes. This way the GM and HC are equals and both report to ownership. No power dynamic or contract and number driven agendas getting in the way of the final product on the field, keeps everyone honest and let’s be real HC is just as important a job and needs to be treated as such.

We can say all of the nice things about it’s a collaboration and nothing gets done without everyone’s involvement, but we know in the real world who has final authority matters. This might mean the Giants will need an ownership figure to have final say and break any split decisions, interesting.

  14. Harbaugh reports directly to Mara. Period. If Schoen doesn’t like it he can find a new job.

  15. Sooooo none of this was discussed during his private jet flight, the meetings, the dinner and the private flight back home??

  16. The fact that the Giants organization is so bad at this stuff that Schoen and whoever can’t simply say, “What do you want, John? Who would you like to report to?” is maddening. Even if we get Harbaugh and whoever else, I simply can’t not wait until Joe Schoen is gone.

  17. It official because “technically” we didn’t have a deal because the sticking point was that idiot GM so the drama is over and paper are sign and

    John is a officially a g-man
