When Macklin Celebrini was drafted first overall by the San Jose Sharks, most expected him to embrace the usual rookie superstar lifestyle—luxury cars, lavish homes, and expensive habits. Instead, despite signing a $13 million contract, he’s living simply, cooking his own meals, and driving a Toyota Tacoma. This grounded mindset traces back to his upbringing in a disciplined, sports-focused family from North Vancouver. His father, Rick Celebrini, a former pro soccer player and current sports medicine expert for the Golden State Warriors, exposed Macklin early to the difference between athletes who manage fame wisely and those who don’t.

Before turning pro, Macklin spent a year developing at Boston University rather than rushing into the NHL. Living in dorms, eating dining-hall food, and playing alongside his brother Aiden, he chose growth and discipline over instant money. That experience shaped his mature, humble approach to life and hockey.

Now, as an NHL rookie, his daily routine reflects intense focus and structure. He’s up at 7 a.m., studies game film, makes healthy meals, drives himself to practice, and ends most days cooking dinner and going to bed by 10 p.m. Even on the road, he shares hotel rooms with teammates and ends nights with milk and cookies—an old-school routine that underscores his humility. He avoids flashy social media, keeps his private life quiet, and maintains a small, modest home while learning from veteran Joe Thornton.

Financially, Celebrini is just as disciplined. Despite earning millions, he spends conservatively—clipping coupons, investing for the long term, and aligning with relatable brands like Chipotle, CCM, and Colossal rather than luxury labels. His understated charity work mentoring young athletes further reveals his character.

Ultimately, Celebrini’s humility, discipline, and long-term mindset not only separate him from typical young stars—they position him for enduring success on and off the ice.

  2. He is mature, been raised well and is an outstanding Teammate. His character and skill set will take him a long way. He is way ahead of his peer group in the game at his age. I think everyone will love playing with that kid.
