Disappointing as Marte is really the best fit for what we need (power bat, fills a position of need, reasonable contract). Wish we had been able to make our moves sooner to capitalize.
well darn
Liar
Depending on how the season goes for them, I wouldn’t be surprised if Marte ends up being a trade deadline target
Reading between the lines, Arizona understandably wanted a massive haul for one of the best players in the game, but in today’s world that level of value is reserved for guys under team control, not guys under contract until they’re 37 – even if they’re underpaid. Look at the Devers return.
It’s Eugenio Suárez or bust.
Marte is going to have 10 5 rights very soon. He can still be had for the right price.
The idea was trade Marte to make financial room to sign Bregman. So now that Bregman isn’t an option obviously they aren’t moving Marte.
They obviously wanted Tolle, Early or both.

Totally happening
They could get him if they want if young pitching is what Arizona’s after
Paredes, Donovan or Hoerner. They have to figure something out better than a journeyman.
He would have been great in Boston but a lot of fans would have been uncomfortable with how much we needed to give up.
Makes sense, they signed an older pitcher and just got Aranado, they’re trying to be relevant, not trade off their best player

Red Sox will do anything but sign Suarez
