This heated rivalry is dead…

The Anaheim Ducks take the Freeway Faceoff series from the Los Angeles Kings for the first time in six years, but this heated rivalry itself feels very different than it used to, almost dead. Outside of a Jeff Viel fight and some questionable antics from Adrian Kempe, the Ducks vs. Kings games lacked the intensity we saw during the Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry era. Still, Beckett Sennecke continues to look like a future star, leading the Ducks with three assists and a highlight-reel shootout goal while emerging as one of the team’s most consistent offensive players at just 19 years old. With Leo Carlsson sidelined 3–5 weeks following a thigh procedure, players like Mikael Granlund, Mason McTavish, Ryan Strome, and Pavel Mintyukov have stepped up in a big way. Strong goaltending from Lukas Dostal and Ville Husso, plus a simplified team game, helped Anaheim earn two well-deserved wins. The Ducks now turn their attention to their next matchup as injuries, trade questions, and a changing of the guard continue to shape the season. #anaheimducks #lakings #nhl #hockey #heatedrivalry

  1. I gotta admit, the Ducks Vs Kings does seem like its missing that fire now, because i think the drivers have all changed out, the Kings dont really any of those "grit" players, where as the games against Seattle or utah theres lots of similar timelines if that makes sense?

The injury to Leo i think is more Leo wanting to stay out there and battle, i remember something he said in an NHL Network thing about battling through some things, so i think he was trying to continue through the pain, but players need to be just as accoutable for injuries and dealing with them. Its why the concussions is often handled by 3rd party doctors because it stops players from telling trainers they are good,

  2. i had the same thought pulling the 'shhh' after scoring a 5 on 3 for almost 2m is crazy work.
i wish granny or senecke shh'd there bench when they were all crying. You know the fans would feel differently about the potential non stoppage if fiala had scored on his ensuing breakway.
The refs had their money on LA all weekend, too lol

  3. i thought no one wanted to lose in the first game and no one wanted to or could win in the 2nd one. they all look exhausted. kings had way too many PP chances and still sucked. your outro "and go ducks" sounds right again!

  4. It's a great rivalry, but I don't ever want to see it the way it was back in 2013 (correct me if I'm wrong). There were seven major fights (in the crowd) including an older man kicked down the stairs. It's what prompted a heavy police presence anytime the Kings played at the Honda Center.
