  1. I’m not sure anyone has noticed, but your Detroit Red Wings are tied for 1st in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference, and tied for 2nd in the league.

  2. Its funny how we can look like hot poop to start and yet somehow claw out a win, Rocky style.Ā

  3. First place in the east 50 games in, you have to ask if sitting on your hands is a form of enacting a self-fulfilling prophecy.

ā€œWe can’t spend futures for this season because we aren’t competing for the cup.ā€

Really? Well you know if we don’t add anything we’ll help make that statement a reality.

I’ve been consistent, the trade deadline is just a common time that players move teams, free agency just doesn’t generally have what you need and you’re unlikely to get every player you want that fits. Every prospect won’t hit their ceiling and many of them won’t help the current (yea, first place) version of this team in the next few years. Sometimes, the best use of a pick or prospect is in a deal for a legit nhl player.

Trade for a guy with term (Thomas, Werenksi), trade for a guy and extend him (Schmaltz, Ferraro) trade for a distressed asset (Peterson, Hartman, Mintyukov) at a reduced cost. Make a deal.

Do something cool. Fill a tough to fix roster spot, top four dman, 2C, top six wing.

  4. I’ll never forget the meltdowns on here last year because ā€œOttawa started and ended their rebuild before us!ā€

I can tell ya one thing, I’d rather be a wings fan than an Ottawa fan right now. (Or truthfully any time ever) What’s crazy to think is that (I believe they talked about this during the game,) the wings are not nearly as lucky as they should be. The ceiling for this group hasn’t been reached yet, we’re not even close to it. We’re winning games without top guys producing. The wins aren’t always pretty, but the points sure are!

    Upward and onwards! LGRW!

  5. The OT winning goal being scored by Alex ā€œboo every time he touches the puckā€ DeBrincat of all people must have drove Senators fans crazy, which of course makes me very, very happy.

  6. Despite the 4pts there’s a little meat left on the bone. Optimistic me tells me it’s good we’re winning when only playing half decent. Thanks Gibby.

  7. Not sure I know how to do this but for those that could use some entertainment, here is a very successful message exchange with a sens fan regarding the Raymond cheap shot, and subsequent DeBrincat OT winner, and finally a dunk wishing them success in their impending rebuild…

  8. I thought Kasper looked great all game and AlJo seems to be turning the corner. He’s had some really nice breakouts the last couple games.

  9. we talk a bit about how Kasper leads the team in hits but he’s actually 38th league wide in hits and the youngest player in the top 50, so that’s kind of neat

  10. Games like yesterday are why ASP is so crucial for this team – down 2 and you can’t expect Ed/Seider to do everything

ASP has a great play keeping the puck in at the line on PP, about 10 seconds later dances back to middle and score the goal.

He does get caved defensively against some teams, but outside of our top 2 guys I’d who on D could make a play like that, and idk if we come back unless we get a quick response to the 2 goal deficit

  11. I really love where we are sitting right now but I can’t help to feel like we are missing that piece that’s going to keep us at the top.

    When looking at our defense
    Ed-Mo
    Chariot-asp
    Johansson-JBD

Johansson has taken a step forward the past two games offensively but still can be seen as a liability defensively. I’d like for us to go out and get a stay at home right handed defenseman. He can play third line as ASP develops but in tight games can slide up with chariot as we shorten the bench.

Someone like a Justin Faulk would really flourish in this role. Veteran presence playing 20+ minutes a night for the blues. He would easily push 12 minutes of easier deployment minutes on a second/third pairing while creeping up to 16-18 minutes being a legit PK defenseman. Plus he’s 33 on a two year deal so he could be cheaper to trade for. He’s not necessarily a true ā€œstay at homeā€ defender so there may be better names on the trade block.

Next offensively I think our only goal should be to find someone that can compliment Larkin. Larkin been slumping and it’s a major difference between us barely winning games and pulling away. If we can find a cheaper rental that can push our first line further….than I think we can go into the playoffs happy.

In my opinion, I’d like to see the mentality of keeping the young core/prospect intact with the goal of creating a competitive team to give everyone playoff experience. I don’t see us with the depth scoring/defensive stability it takes to win a cup….but I see this team with a strong possibility to make some noise in the playoffs and be set up for a long 10+ years of dominance.

  12. So glad we pushed back on their BS. We got punished for Elmer’s penalty but it was still worth it. They’re the most penalized team in the league for a reason, we have to just let them shoot their own foot sometimes but the guys with size need to give some of it back so they don’t smell blood in the water in those games. The way Todd addressed it post game it seems like he just expects it from the guys and has erased the history of getting bullied by not acknowledging it. Hope we keep it up, don’t need to play like performative tough guys just need to stand up for ourselves.

  13. I really dislike the Ottawa Senators. What a cheap shot against Raymond. Dirty players by all means on that team. I really hope Kasper, Danielson and MBN really take off… all the more so. And for some reason, I think Nate Danielson is more scrappier (able to handle himself and will) than it may seem.

  14. On the broadcast yesterday, Mick said he got a call from Brady Tkachuk to come to the Ottawa dressing room so they could wish him well after hearing about his surgery. That’s just a classy move and made me think that off the ice they may actually be decent human beings.

Or maybe he’s just handing us an olive branch for his inevitable trade here!

  15. John Gibson since 12/1:

    15-2-0 .926 sv% 2.11 GAA 3SO

Wings Record when ASP scores / has a point:

    6-0-0 / 13-1-1

  16. I’m not religious, but I feel the need to go to church the day after we play the Sens because I say some awfully foul shit about them and their fans.

  17. Since finding the Centennial Labatt Blue we’re 2-0-0. I have 22 more beers. If that streak continues we might just make it to the playoffs

  18. In JVR’s last 23 games played he has 20 points. In Copp’s last 25 games played he has 21 points. Our depth has come to play.

  19. Waking up and knowing we beat those bums from Ottawa makes me smile. Even though my furnace went out last night. The HVAC guy is coming at 830 so that’s a plus. It got a little cold in here last night and this morning. It’s a four year old unit so I hope it’s an easy fix. Think warm thoughts for us

  20. 32 Thoughts ultra classy start to the podcast from last night, wishing Mickey Redond all the best before surgery. Gave him a short little tribute to open the show. Stick tap for sure for that. \_ \_

  21. I stayed up until 3 AM last night playing vidya because I have today off, but it turns out that I can’t handle that as well as I did when I was younger 😭

  22. The boys get another couple days off, good for them so they can rest up.

Pros: the boys get rest and hopefully will be ready for TOR

Cons: No Red Wings hockey for a couple daysā€¦šŸ˜

  23. Managed to write 4500 words on why i didn’t like Metroid prime 4. You think it’s a cry for help?
