Watching Vegas and San Jose make trades in a playoff race

There’s no reason for us to be a buyer right now.
If VB gave up a prospect and 2 seconds for kiefer sherwood, this sub would be in meltdown mode.
Eh, we’ve got some time to see how the next 6-7 games go. I would’ve loved to get Andersson but the price was probably too high unless we had an extension in place.
I’d like to go for Parayko and Kyrou but it would cost us Zelly/Minty and a prospect plus a couple firsts
OP already forgot about mighty Jeff Viel…
Why make a trade right now though?
Andersson isn’t that great fyi. Both teams over paid greatly. Why do we want to do that? Do you want to be the kings? Who jumped the gun on their rebuild instead of being patient and now they are void of young talent they traded away.
Id rather stand pat then make dumb trades for the sake of it.
We’ve got the prized trade of Jeffrey Truchon Viel did you forget?
But seriously, why do a trade just to do? Getting a rental type player isn’t a good long term move. We’re not serious contenders yet. We just want to make the playoffs for experience for the young guys.
If we can get an upgrade with term for our bottom 6, it might be worth pursuing but we have to keep in mind the team chemistry
Im okay staying pat this year, definitely dont want to give up prospects for a rental when were not winning the cup this year, and dont want to grab someone who will take up cap space in the future until we take care of Leo and Cutter
Wouldn’t have paid the price that Vegas or SJ paid for Andersson or Sherwood respectively, but this Ducks team of ours has some obvious flaws (especially on defense) that could begin to be addressed…
we don’t need to trade for any forwards right now we have too many
the only trade we should be making at this point is one of Gudas/Trouba + pick and/or prospects for a legit top RHD. those trades don’t happen very often and probably won’t happen but it’s what is missing from this team truly taking the next step
We already made our trade we got veil lol
What type of player can our first round draft pick get us this year? What if we package our first + a defenseman?
Do we need to draft in the first round & keep loading up on prospects who will have no room on our roster in a few years?
I think we see where we are closer to deadline but i wouldn’t mind becoming buyers at all.
Sharks just gave up two 2nd round picks and a prospect for a rental lol. It literally makes no sense I think Mike Grier is overrated.
Our trade was okay. But with Carolina and the Canucks? Really?
here comes the fans that want to be top 3 cap space every year. I’m sorry but if you type anything about cap space you don’t know anything about this team. if we still top 3 in cap space during our window I’m not watching this team, nows not the time to get a 10m + player but soon it will be and you samueli checkbook defenders won’t have an excuse much longer
Holy overpay for Sherwood, Batman!
Yeah, no way. Glad we stayed away from that one. Plus, dude really seems like he’s having a sort of flash in the pan stretch the past year or so. I don’t see him consistently performing like he has been.
Best I can give you is a fourth line grinder with 0 points
I’m still new to hockey, just started following this season. What about Jason Robertson? Is he a possibility or would the price be too high? I wouldn’t wanna give up McQueen
I’m not against them making a trade and being “soft buyers” so to speak but I don’t think they need to make any hasty moves.
We don’t need a lot. This season is just to get into the playoffs. There’s no sense of it until we have Leo, Cutter, Minty and Zelly signed and tagged enough space for Sennecke’s next contract. That’s when we see moves and not before otherwise we’re left dealing players we don’t want to and paying overs for a team that excelled above expectations too soon.
That being said, I wouldn’t be opposed to a couple smaller moves to help keep the roster stabilised and inject some experience but also doesn’t hamper the team long term. Like a trade for Schenn and swap out someone on the 3rd to maintain mix of vets and youth. Come offseason they’re off the books, we still have top picks as well other veterans reducing their contracts or expired completely having served their purpose. It’s a process unfortunately
Bad take
Pushing your team to “do something” is what made the Leafs mediocre for so many years.
