Massive Outfield Surplus FORCES Tampa Bay Rays to DEAL Josh Lowe for Gavin Lux in 3 Team Trade!
Tampa Bay Rays shake up their roster, sending Josh Lowe to the Los Angeles Angels in a bold three-team trade. With an outfield surplus making Lowe expendable, the Rays address their glaring need at second base by acquiring Gavin Lux from the Cincinnati Reds.
Lux’s steady glove, proven major league experience, and contract-year motivation could provide much-needed lineup stability—will he outperform expectations and become a cornerstone for a young Rays infield?
Ulises and Kevin break down the roster implications, question which young outfielders could seize new opportunities, and explore why Lux’s leadership and postseason pedigree matter in a transitioning clubhouse.
Plus, they spotlight Chris Clark, a Harvard-educated arm with under-the-radar upside—could he be the sleeper asset of this trade, reminiscent of past Rays surprises? Dive into analysis on the Rays’ shifting strategy, clubhouse dynamics, and the potential long-term winners of the deal.

Quantity vs Quality in the outfield. Rays have plenty of quantity without much quality. Gave away Cabby last year for nothing which would have prevented the need to make this move. Hey Eric, nice work.
There seems to be a big difference in the FO moves from when Freidman was here and what's happening now. The Rays used to trade players at there peaks and hold onto them when the value was at the players lowest. Right now, Lowe's value is at the lowest it ever has been. Not a good time to trade him. I would have given him a chance to get some more trade value.
The team is rebuilding even though they will not admit that. They did get younger and perhaps more athletic, but there is no way that they are a better team in 2026 with Gavin Lux and Jacob Melton than with Brandon and Josh Lowe. It was a sad ending for Josh Lowe in a Rays uniform. We kept waiting for 2023 Josh Lowe to resurface, but unfortunately he never did.
