[Passan] Cody Bellinger’s deal with the New York Yankees is for five years and $162.5 million, sources tell ESPN. There are opt-outs after the second and third season — which get pushed back a year in the event of a lockout — a $20 million signing bonus and a full no-trade clause

  1. “which get pushed back a year in the event of a lockout”

    🤔🤔🤔

  2. Baseball contracts will never not be crazy to me. What a payday for Bellinger.

  3. Good for him – didn’t really make sense for him to go anywhere else production wise and so made sense Yankees could pay up

  4. Probably worth it to protect judge in the lineup a little bit. Plus he has the second most WAR behind judge on the Yankees. 5 years is solid, nothing too far extended.

But who knows with this market, I don’t know value anymore

  5. Honestly still overpaid. But that’s how it goes after Dodgers is essentially paying 120 millions every year for Tucker.

  6. Just a terrible deal. Sorry. Hope he proves me wrong. But giving this much money to a hit or miss player is nuts to me.

  7. Boras was really trying to get seven years out of this. Yankees weren’t gonna compete with themselves

  8. Glad Cody got his bag, even if it isn’t the city-block-sized bag he was apparently hoping for

  9. Happy Cody got paid and the Yankees got their guy, but I would have preferred we get Cody back instead of Tucker. All I wanted this offseason was for my son to come home

  10. What happened to all those mystery teams they were talking about just yesterday? All this posturing by Boras, and they end up taking more or less the same deal the Yankees were offering all along.

  11. Any length lockout or a lockout that affects the 162 game schedule? Partial or full lockout season?

There was a lockout in 2021 but no regular season games were impacted, they still played the full schedule

  12. Boras got $2.5M than what was reported. People hate Boras, but he usually gets top dollar for his clients. If you’re a top player, I’d hire him and so would you. Now get Peralta before the Dodgers do. Do it fast!

  13. Is the no trade clause really necessary? What team would try to trade for Bellinger three years from now?
