[Logan Murdock] Multiple [Warriors] assistants have been operating under the premise that Kerr will not return next season, according to team sources, with some surveying the league to secure jobs next season.

  1. Yeah. Maybe. Maybe not.

He’ll be the Spurs coach in a couple years one way or another.

  2. What happened to him saying he’ll retire when Steph does or Steph saying he’ll never play for another coach?

  3. If true I hate this. I don’t care what you haters say, the chances of us getting a better coach than Kerr are very slim.

  4. That definitely complicates things if this is his last year, especially with the Jimmy injury. Maybe they will actually try and go young the final few years of Curry’s career and see if JK, Podz, Will, Moody, or a new draft pick, can blossom into something more that can lead the future. I just hope Curry stays through it, don’t think I can even imagine him in another uniform.

  5. I think Kerr is more of a good X and O coach instead of elite but think the issue is finding a replacement. No Jimmy, no young building blocks, washed Dray and no cap space. It’s just Steph and when he’s healthy you can win a decent amount but also too good to tank.

Kerr leaving as the ship is sinking would be rough

  6. Kerr’s also on record saying he doesn’t see this season as a ‘last dance’ and doesn’t envision leaving or coaching somewhere else. Just wants to make sure it feels right. I understand assistant coaches needing to make sure they’re covered in the case he *does* leave but I don’t see that as a signifier his leaving is an absolute.

  7. Bummer, but makes sense. He’s been very open about it since summer, seems it was gonna hinge on how the season went. Butler injury may complicate things, could see it opening the door to a return in a “well we never had a real chance to give it our all” sense.

Surprised he’d walk away while Steph is still playing ball, but I thought the same about Myers a couple years back. I’m sure navigating these past few years hasn’t been easy, especially if his opinions on those lotto picks were disregarded and he’s had to coach up guys he never throughout were proper fits for his system. And even if they still get along fine, don’t doubt he’s tired of butting heads with Lacob, seems they have very different opinions on some key players.

If Kerr thinks it’s best for him, if Kerr thinks it’s best for Steph and the team, hard to gripe. Wasn’t always perfect, but those were 12 very, very special seasons. Dubs were incredibly lucky to have him.

Wonder which way Dunleavy leans if and when it’s time to for a new HC. Probably depends on when it is and where the roster’s at. Doubt they’d bring in a young/unproven guy while Steph is still here, but looking around the league, young guys like Daigenault, Adleman, Rajakovic, Fernandez, Hardy, they’ve all been fairly stellar hires. Tweak the system, sure, but a complete overhaul in Steph’s age 38+ seasons? Can’t see it. Maybe you just tap Stotts or Stackhouse or someone else on the bench and take it season by season from there?

  8. I could see Joe being bitter about the JK situation and holding that against Kerr this whole time…

  9. Damn… truly an end of an era… product will probably suck for a few years if not more post curry/kerr

  10. Kerr is an amazing human being. Savour this dynasty runs with Steph and Draymond because all good things must come to an end.

  11. It’s the end if Kerr leaves. The team will be open to trading Draymond and if that happens, Steph will ride out his contract or even ask for a trade.

  12. They’re probably working on a new contract.

No way Steph and Kerr will be separated like this.

  13. Who the hell is Logan Murdock? Wake me when Shams says it. No way Kerr bails this year when Steph/Dray still have one more contract year.

  14. Forever love Steve and the memories but his NBA career as a coach won’t last long outside Golden State. Steph is the only thing that made his ball movement offense work.

If he goes to a vet team, they’re not going to buy into it. If he takes over a young team, Steve has shown a poor job of managing youth.

  15. I’m just here waiting for this team to go back to tanking mode so all the dumbass bandwagons in this sub can packup and leave

  16. This really isn’t all that surprising given the circumstances. The team is a sinking ship, even before Butler’s injury the roster was super top heavy with most cap space occupied by three players age 35+.

The team’s lottery picks were the prime chance to supplement the vets, and the F.O. swung and missed. If rumors are true that Kerr was overruled on Wagner v Kuminga, tensions have probably existed between Lacob and Kerr for awhile. I imagine both were willing to remain amicable as long as the team was competing…..now this current iteration of the team is close to the finish line.

I just wonder what this means as far as Curry’s future with the franchise. My gut instinct was that next year would serve as a retirement tour in the final year of his contract. Will he force the issue with Lacob to keep Kerr around another year? Does he ask for a trade if Kerr leaves? (god I hope not) Or does he suck it up and play out his contract here? (still think this is most likely)

I also STRONGLY disagree with fans who think Kerr has been the problem the last few years, or that the game has passed him by. The best players on the team are getting older and the other pieces are far worse than the glory years of “strength in numbers”.

  17. It’s really coming to an end. Sucks that it finishes like this too. That Jimmy injury really makes me numb at this point but it fucking sucks.

  18. Wait what, the title makes it sound like the assistants coaches won’t return next season and they have other jobs lined up. Am I tripping

  19. Fuck ! It’s over everyone , is Steve leaves then Steph and dray are gone .its been fun

  20. Used to wonder if Steph wanted to do a year in Charlotte, but I really don’t see that happening

  21. I must admit I did not see the potential Kuminga staying and Kerr leaving scenario. Lacob is insane enough to do it too.

  22. Wow! Who are these supposedly fans who want Kerr out in favor of Kuminga! Are people that clueless?
