The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired infielder/outfielder Jett Williams and right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat from the New York Mets in exchange for right-handed pitchers Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Matt Arnold.
"Jett and Brandon are two of the top up-and-coming talents in baseball," said Arnold. "We are adding both a dynamic athlete and exciting arm to the organization that we see impacting the Major League team for years to come."
Arnold added, "Decisions like this are never easy. Freddy will always be a beloved member of the Brewers family who positively affected the team and community both on and off the field. We watched him grow from a 19-year-old prospect into an All-Star. We would also like to recognize the contributions from Tobias, a testament to our player development and scouting group who overcame adversity to become a key contributor over the last two seasons. We wish both players and their families the best going forward."
Williams, who turned 22 on November 3, was selected by the Mets in the first round (14th overall) of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of Rockwall-Heath (TX) High School. He is currently the third-best prospect in the Mets organization according to MLB Pipeline and was most recently listed as the 30th-best prospect in baseball. Williams is also currently ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Mets organization and 71st in baseball according to Baseball America. He was tabbed by that publication with the best infield arm and being the fastest baserunner in the organization.
Sproat, 25, was selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Florida. He is currently listed as the fifth-best prospect in the Mets organization by both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. He is ranked 81st among prospects in baseball according to the latter publication.
Peralta, 29, who is eligible for free agency following the 2026 season, was acquired by Milwaukee from the Seattle Mariners along with two other pitchers in exchange for first baseman Adam Lind on December 9, 2015. The two-time All-Star is 70-42 with a 3.59 ERA and 1 save in 211 appearances (162 starts) in the Major Leagues. He ranks third on the all-time franchise list in strikeouts behind Yovani Gallardo (1,226) and Ben Sheets (1,206).
Myers, 27, pitched for five organizations prior to joining the Brewers after the 2022 season, making appearances in the Baltimore (2016-17), Tampa Bay (2017-21), Cleveland (2022), San Francisco (2022) and Chicago-AL (2022) farm systems. He made his Major League debut with Milwaukee in 2024 and went 10-8 with a 3.15 ERA in 49 games (31 starts) during his two seasons with the team.

I’ll miss Freddy. I’m new to baseball (2025 was my first season really paying attention to the game) and I really enjoyed watching him play. I hope these guys can add value to the team. I’m really wondering what our starting rotation is going to be this year. We’ve got Woody, Miz, and Priester right now that I know of

For comps.
Totally see Sproat as a Priester type. Do not see Williams as a Adames type – he seems more of a Frelick type.
Adam Lind trade STILL paying dividends
They develop players just to trade them.
Sproat looks like a brewer
I don’t see either of these guys being MLB ready. Sproat only has about 250 innings split between AA and AAA, and he ran a 4.24 ERA in Syracuse last season. Baseball America says AAA hitters batted .380 off his fastball in 2025.
Williams only has 156 ABs total at the AAA level, and last season he hit .209 there. And for all they say about his elite speed, his career steal % in the minors is 82.5%. That beats the MIL average last year of 75.6%, but there were 8 teams with overall TEAM steal rates over 80% last year.
I realize we had to move Freddy, but I don’t feel like we got much in return, at least not in 2026.
The Sproat Goat.
