  1. I would be okay with a Nico Horner trade, IF I had more confidence in the front office to sign him in FA. Also – is this a needle shifting, ‘win now’ move?’

  2. This is where I differ with Cora on stating Story is the SS. If your aim is improve the infield defense, and your best fielder at short is Mayer, and Story is now a better defender at second than at short (and doesn’t have the arm for third) wouldn’t you make that switch, and look for a good glove at third? Or at least someone who can play second and third? Hoerner isn’t that. It’s a plus he’s a righty, but I say no go if it’s just for one year.

  3. I like Nico Hoerner and he would be a great fit for Boston. If they can negotiate an extension- I propose trading Brayan Bello and another prospect for Hoerner. Boston hasn’t developed a second baseman since Pedroia? Do it ! He will round up the lineup.

  4. Wild idea: Trade for Matt Shaw. Great defense, maybe can progress batting (Great in MiLB), 5 years of control, probably (hopefully?) not too expensive. Yeah, he's a 3B. But maybe he could move to 2B, or Mayer could accept 3B. Icing: He's a MA guy.

  5. Sox's fans dont want to trade Early for Marte. Why in the world would they want to trade him for Nico ? Marte is the best 2b period ! Nico only has a better glove.

  6. The only proposal mentioned that I could stomach would be Crawford and Godbout. The Cubs can’t demand more than that knowing that Hoerner will be a FA at the end of the year. If the Sox could pull something like this off and then convince Eugenio Suarez to sign on as DH for two years (the Sox would have to trade or release Yoshida) I would be very happy. Insert Shaw instead of Hoerner and this would still be a very good move.

Looks like someone changed the bulb in the red seat recently lmao.

  7. As a Cub fan I cant speak for the front office but I can speak for the situation…Hoerner had a 6 2 WAR this season…hes an amazing defender. Talks are Shaw will go into a super utility role and may even end up an OF. But point is there is literally no pressure to trade Hoerner. Cubs hold all the leverage so yes it would be a huge overpay.

  8. Crawford, Sandoval, houck, yoshida are the only players I’d trade for a defensive forward contact only rental….

Trading tolle, bello, or early is INSANE

  9. Bad move all around. Me as a fan think Berslow and ownership won’t even think about making a move like this.
Boston fans are over valuing their prospects and even Duran. Just because they play for Boston doesn’t mean they have added value. Put yourself if in the other teams position. Tolle and Early are proof of this. They aren’t proven and fans are making them untouchable. Other teams look at these guys and focus on the risk. And there are red flags. Look at Tolle. He is probably gonna be a relieve pitcher because of only having a few pitches he throws good. A fast ball isn’t going to get by in the major. Just be realistic. Tolle and Early can be traded just as easy as any other player

  10. He would be a nice pickup, but he's a rental. Also, some walks would help (39 is sad). My guess is that the Cubs ask for too much and he stays put. Nice player, but not a difference-maker.

  11. If they prefer Mayer at 3B and want defense at 2B, I get it. Most of the 3B targets out there are not great defensively. They have missed out on the power bats. So if they pivot somewhat to pitching and defense, it's understandable. Just kind of a bummer that between Hamilton, Romy, Campbell, etc.-never mind tossing around the possibility of bringing in Rafaella-they still can't come up with a solid starter at 2B.

  12. How about Masa Yoshida for Javier Baez.

2 “bad contracts” however Baez plays elite defence, for the tigers it opens short for their mlb ready number 1 prospect McGonigle and they have an opening at DH if colt Keith plays more that utility role.

Doesn’t cost the Sox a whole lot and opens up the DH for all 4 outfielders or Casas

  13. The other thing people could remember is Hoerner only moved off SS for the GG winner Dansby Swanson despite finishing 2nd in OOA at short the year they signed him. He could potentially be the SS over story in Boston.

  14. The Red Sox are a mess right now because they consistently want to lowball players. Signing Alonso should have a no brainer, but they lowballed him just like lowballing Bregman. Judging by what’s available I would put Meyer at shortstop, move Story to 2nd. He was healthy, but there are no guarantees he will healthy this year. I would sign Suarez or see if Tampa would part with Yandy Diaz. Also, I would sign another closer type reliever, because there’s no way of if Chapman pitches again like he did last year. This should have been a no brainer upgrading this team, but Breslow either sits on his hands or lowballs someone with an offer. John Henry should sell team to someone who wants to own a winning team. There is no interest from current ownership to do anything.
