Has to be a LeBron level player. Not sure who can step up and be that person rn.
They almost had one back during 20 with the player’s refusing to play, but when they asked Obama for how to proceed he basically said to “shut up and dribble” and we ended up with the social justice jerseys.
Great read. Thanks for sharing.
Where have you gone, Colin Kaepernick? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
Ladies and gentlemen, please take a knee for the singing of our national anthem.
No, they are missing real men
Too much at stake. Players are too vain nowadays, and very few operate on humility and selflessness
To be an agent of change, you cant want all the things that these athletes want
Not blaming anyone here. Just pointing out that wanting positive change vs wanting money/fame usually goes against one another. You cant, unfortunately, have both
As a small example, consider that these nba players have partnerships with nike (and other shoe/clothing companies), and get paid millions/billions, but what we find is that nike, like all corporations, dont give a shit about people. Corporations, after all, are psychopathic by definition. They build their fortune off the backs of disadvantaged people. Despite that, you go ahead and ask any player about what nike does to make all that money, and they’ll turn a blind eye. Think klay will take a stand against anta? Think mj will say no to nike and give back all his money? Hell no
Needless to say, no one is gonna risk their careers and their “livelihood” (i.e. their riches) to speak up for change. It requires too much of their time, too much of their emotional bandwidth, and too much sacrifice of personal wealth for them to ever consider. Even more so now, in today’s world, where these athletes are typically all users of social media, i dont think anyone would have the mental fortitude to put up with all of that negative feedback from the public
Cant blame them. When so many of these people come from “poverty” (it’s all relative. A poor anthony edwards or jimmy butler as random examples, are nothing compared to the kids of, say, gaza; i bet ant and butler grew up with internet and running water), their desires to want more is at the forefront, and social justice and things of that nature are very likely so far away from their minds. At the end of the day, they just wanna live THEIR lives and be happy
Plus, people are so apathetic in today’s world. No one cares enough to do anything about it
Just my two cents
At least we have Kerr. But yes, more players need to speak up.
