Andrew McCutchen’s latest response on how he feels regarding his future.

  1. Well said by Andrew. He does deserve to be on that roster, even as a DH or a back up OF. Why not to be honest.

  2. Oh yeah that report about the front office and Cutch getting into a heated argument at the end of the season is looking to pretty accurate

  3. Cutch is insane. Out here comparing himself to actual hall of fame caliber players. The difference between you and Pujols is that hitting 700 home runs is actually historic.

  4. We’ve gotta make up our minds as to whether we care about wins or losses or not.

Either Cutch being on this team makes them better or it doesn’t. I could go either way, but the idea that he should have a spot on the team solely out of sentimentality rings hollow to me, considering that the number one thing that people complain about regarding the Pirates is that they don’t think the team makes winning a top priority.

On balance, I guess I would say that they should bring him back. But I think it’s fair to consider the idea that they shouldn’t just automatically reserve a spot on the roster for a DH who had an OPS of .700 last year and has played exactly 20 games in the field over the last 3 years.

  5. Watching him last year, his hands still get around surprisingly fast. I have to think there is still a spot for him.

  6. I think the Pirates have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they can make any bad situation infinitely worse by always choosing the wrong course of action. The least they could have done was to bring Cutch back for a fan fest farewell in some capacity.

This team has no class, no dignity, and no future. Anyone who gives the people running this team the benefit of the doubt after their continued failings needs their heads checked.

  7. I will always love Cutch but frankly his career is not remotely comparable to the players he lists here. Those are all first ballot HoF type players.

  8. I haven’t been the biggest fan of Cutch reunion for this season, but now I really dont want it.

Tell me you want to show up to win 100 games, not sign a few autographs in January. That is what this fan wants.

  9. One thing I haven’t seen mentioned that I hope the FO is considering: ABS challenge system in 2026 could make Cutch more valuable than he’s been in years. It’s a pretty universal opinion that he’s got one of the best eyes in the game. Cutch could lead the league in walks if he can challenge called strikes.

I’d rather gamble on that than Jack Suwinski at least.

  10. Good for Cutch. Leaving out the PSN analysts, aside from Dorin Dickerson, Pittsburgh sports media collectively are untalented and unqualified.

  11. Honestly, with this team? Who the fuck cares. Keep him around for as long as he wants to be around. This man is the heart and soul of this city.

  12. To me the biggest question with Cutch is if he’d be okay playing 2-3 games a week.

If the answer is yes, sign him up.

If it’s no; then things get more complicated.

The hope is that Lowe and OHearn carry the DH slot. We’ve been told Lowe isn’t great defensively, that’s fine since we have Gonzales and can shift Lowe to the DH role.

We also need to work Horwitz into a slot. I’m not sure on his ability as a RF, but he’s another 1b/DH guy. Like OHearn.

You’re also looking to get Mangum in there which takes up LF with Reynolds going to RF.

So I put it back to cutch, are you okay being a bench piece? Can you take not being a starter every day?

Honestly, I don’t think that he’d be cool with that and that’s why he’s not re-signed. I love his drive and the belief in himself that he can be in the line up everyday. We just don’t have that slot available to him right now and it seems like a potential disaster to sign him without that role sorted.

Also, there’s a good chance the best laid plans go to shit and we wish we had him on the roster, but as of today, we need someone who is better than Suwinski, but okay being on the pine the majority of the games.

All that said my other thought is using Cutch to start some games in rf and once he gets on in a key running, situation sub in Mangum. Could be the 4th or 8th. Pair it with the reverse in that he’s going to pinch hit somewhere every game when the moment comes and then go in the field.

  13. People talking about how we just can’t carry him on the roster and we have to decide if winning is actually important and on and on are hilarious. This team made a couple middling moves and you think we’re a contender? The Pirates will not be in contention at the end of the year, they’re not making the playoffs, and there would be no harm whatsoever in giving an over the hill team legend and fan favorite a farewell season on a low contract. That’s to say nothing of how poorly they seem to have handled talks with him irrespective of their intentions… it’s completely delusional to think this situation is anything but another failure from the front office

  14. Cutch just wants his kids to see him play ball. The homecoming already happened. I don’t really care one way or another, but I love the comment I read on here a few weeks ago appropriately pointing out how Pirates fans would be grilling the team if they signed a player exactly in Cutch’s situation right now but without all the hometown nostalgia.

  15. Hire Cutch as a coach and invite him to spring training and Piratefest. If it turns out that he is not one of the 26 best players on the roster then he should retire and coach full-time.

  16. I honestly can’t believe the responses online of not an insignificant number of Pirates fans on the Cutch situation that are against bringing him back.

There’s a lot that I could say about this, but it blows my mind that people are worried that Cutch would somehow hold this roster back from being competitive. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, y’all…but Pirates aren’t coming close to the postseason in 2026 with this roster.
