Stargell did hit 48 HR's in '71, and hit 44 in '73. No Pirate has hit 40, in over 52 years. Half a century, which is unfathomable. Infact the Pirates are the only team that has not had at least one 40 HR guy since the 2000 season.
On an upbeat note, regarding Piratesfest, Jake Mangum is going to be a HUGE fan favorite. He was going around joking with fans, asking other Pirates for their autographs. Having a good ol time. We need players like this, and more of them!
Doing a deep dive into Eugenio Suarez' stats at PNC park, he is a career .286 hitter, with 13 longballs. Other than his time with the Reds, D'Backs and Seattle, only one other park has he hit more home runs in, that being Wrigley field. He has done quite well here, so why not get it done. Maybe 2 X $18 mil, and incentives. Then sign Quintana as the 5th starter, and bring in Justin Wilson for the pen.
A 5 million dollar increase is just covering inflation.
