  1. Damn that sucks, but hopefully good time to rest and he’ll be ready to go for a playoff push.

  2. Rest sweet prince. Sucks for sure, but hope he’s back after the break.

Awesome to see Ajo stepping up. JBD hasn’t been bad either. Just worried about that last spot

  3. The most convenient time for that type of injury. Come back strong after the break, hopefully.

  4. Sucks, but if we’re gonna have someone be injured at least it’s shortly before a three week period we don’t have any games anyway

  5. Well, shit. Poor guy… At least he has the break to heal up and get back to action. 5 more games before the break, though, that’s rough.

  6. Additional quip from CBS Sports

    >Edvinsson likely would have been in the mix to be an injury replacement for Sweden if he wasn’t dealing with a lower-body injury of his own. With the blueliner ruled out for the next five games, he almost certainly will be designated for injured reserve in order to give Detroit an open roster spot for a recall.

  7. Does he mean that they except Edvinsson will be healthy after the break? Or that he’s injured at least through the break?

  8. Ansar Khan also posted that the expectation is he will be ready after the break. Good to know that it’s not an “at least through the break” situation

  9. Does anyone know how he actually got injured? I dont remember seeing him take a weird fall or big hit or anything.

  10. Bad news: we lose Simon for 5 games (7 total)
Good news: we only lose Simon for
    5 games (7 total)

  11. At least it’s fortunate timing. He could miss an entire month and only miss three games.

  12. Dearest Steve Yzerman,

A trade for a 2ld would be swell. Don’t need to crazy overspend, don’t need an all star, somebody who slots in better then Ben but not as good as Ed is fine. Feel free to give up a 1st rounder even. Especially if the guy has 2+ years on a decent contract. Toss in a prospect if they rank closer to Ed than Ben. But only go crazy beyond that unless they’re gonna compete with Ed for 1LD.

    Thank you in advance.

  13. I feel bad for him because I know he wants to play for Sweden and how injuries seem to be piling he’d probably be one of the first calls as a substitute. But glad he’s gonna get just about a full month off. In total we are probably looking at 7 missed games (the last 2 and 5 before the break) so not too bad. Rest up and be ready for this playoff push.

  14. So reading the tea leaves

    What we know

    – got hurt or reinjuired in practice

    – no immediate rush to check out, waited until end of road trip to confirm he’s out through break

    – out through Olympic break, Khan tweeted he would be back after

Speculation based off of the news

Likely injures something in a game, tweaked it and made it worse in practice/warmups. My guess if we had a playoff game tomorrow he could gut it out and play, but then it might not “heal” for a while

I think the team waited out the road trip to see how we were doing, and as a result decided with only 5 games left until the break it made more sense to sit him so he could get closer to 100% upon return, rather than have him at like 70% for rest of season and a high chance to re-injure

I think I agree with this logic – if we can steal a few games and get maybe 5-6 of the next 10 points, we can come back with a healthy Ed after the break

I do wonder if he was playing somewhat hurt now there’d be pressure to add him to Sweden as an injury replacement, that all goes away now as well

  15. I hope that’s all he needs. We can figure out how to manage for the next few games.

  16. Conspiracy theory time: he’s fine but needs rest and the Wings don’t want Sweden calling him up as a replacement.

  17. Time to make a call to GR and bring up Wallinder to see what the kids got. Playing Hamonic the Hack every night is a big ” no fucking go”

And to those who say ” well at least with Hamonic you know what you’ve got”. Yeah, but what you’ve got is a steaming pile of defensive dogshit
