  4. He’s alright. Not bad but also not great enough to save DQs job. Important to have a mid DC given Blough will crush it. I approve!!!

  5. Idk anything about him but the Vikings have turned some really average dbs into an actual strength. If we can get some dline help I like this.

  9. As a professional couch GM, I approve of this hire. However, if the defense plays bad next year, then I will disapprove of this hire.

  10. Two first year play callers on offense and defense. That’s a formula for success.

  11. Idk no experience as DC and the defense been fucking terrible so idk what he will do to help. Imo these hires will get him fired before season ends instead of after

  12. I like it on the face of it. Younger guy, lots of potential upside. If he succeeds, he probably won’t get looks for HC jobs for a few years.

    Specialty is DBs and player development.

    Will obviously bring elements of Flores’ scheme.

    Pretty big swing by DQ given the lack of play-calling experience, but at this point I prefer big swings. If he hits, there’s a pathway to sustained success. If he doesn’t, he, and the rest of the staff probably won’t be here long. Sounds rough, but just the nature of the NFL and coaching cycles.

  13. One of the worst offenses last year. Still a good defense. Says a lot. Knowing the defense likely plays more than the offense throughout the year, and still only allowing 108 rushing/game.

    They lost the turnover margin but they also had arguably the worst quarterback play. Obviously they played well up front. The Flores special. Decent number of sacks.

    Not exactly sure what parts of the Vikings defense he’ll be bringing with him, but I’m not mad at this. Offseason hasn’t begun and our guys are in the building. It’ll be interesting to see what direction we head as far as resigning/signing, and then obviously draft. Wondering how different things will look come next September.

  17. This guy has coached with Vance Joseph and Mike Zimmer as well. Been on a lot of good defensive staffs

  20. So it looks like he’s been coaching for 20 years, and has experience calling plays in college

  21. Love it because Vikings don’t have elite talents on their defense but they’re able to come up with a system that maximize what they have.

  22. Oof, good luck DQ. I don’t know enough about Blough or Jones’ abilities but I’m sure they’re smart guys. Having two new coordinators who have never called plays doesn’t seem like the most sure strategy for success though.

  26. He’s wet behind the ears as a DC. LSU was his only year holding the job, but he’s been under good NFL DCs. I just hope he’s a younger Flores.

  27. Worked with some damn good DCs in his time – based on a couple soundbites, seems like a good communicator who should resonate with the players. Giving him the glass is more than half full on first pass

    DQ rolling the dice – hope AP can build out the roster and the injury bug flies elsewhere next season
