Both coach and GM wanted him to condition with Marlies, but Stolarz wanted to start for Leafs instead. For me, this is a symptom of what is wrong with the organization – they have pandered and deferred way to much to the players.

  1. Id rather have players that want to play than ones that want to sit out. But i agree that the team should step in and say you need to play in the AHL first instead of throwing him into THAT game specifically

  2. If I were Hildeby I’d be pissed. Make Stolli play an AHL game and let Hildy have one last start, he deserved it.

  3. I heard this the other day and it made sense why Berube just kind of threw him under the bus. Stolie should just be a bit more humble . Speaking up and acting like you are all that has not bode well for him this year LOL. If you are Hasek or Roy? I get it!

  4. My bad I just thought with a new “chief” in town and GM Boston Pizza Jr that this wouldn’t happen. Crazy

  5. I think there is to much individualism and not enough be there for team or the boys, Vegas game kind of highlighted that for me ,imo anyways

  6. Sorry, but as much as I want players to want to play this was not the correct decision by Leafs management. They have to take control of the team.

The response should have been … “Go play in the AHL and we will see how you do…”

He didnt play well… seems to be another ego guy. I dont see this as putting the team first, this is him and his ego not wanting to play in the AHL. (Im too good for that attitude).

He had his run… this is an asset the Leafs should deal at the deadline.

Stolarz, McMann, Carlo .. these guys will provide actual returns. Woll and Hildeby are fine (for the current team), Carlo is not very good and getting worse and McMann isnt signing back with the Leafs.. let someone else overpay him for not playing defense.

  7. We all think we know what is wrong with the organization, who the hell knows what’s going on with this greedy organization and at the end of the day, they don’t get a dime off me, so whatever

  8. Out of curiosity, how reliable is Yardbarker? Do they write mostly their own articles, or lift off others?

  9. Why tf does someone like Stolarz even have this much sway that they’ll let him dictate where he plays? Woll did an AHL stint when he came back, but Stolarz is above that?

  10. Yeah Berube is completely out to lunch. You’re the coach, you decide who starts. Why are you letting others make decisions, and then throwing up your hands saying “it wasn’t my call”?

This is turning into a circus.

  11. This is insane and maddening. Stolie was hardly the reason we lost against VGK but he didn’t look good either . Grow some balls mgmt.

  12. Honestly, Dreger hasn’t had that much of an inside into the Leafs (besides Paul Marner lol) in quite a while.

If this is true, it’s pretty shitty how they handled it (especially given how big of a game it was and how well Hildebeast has been playing).

If it’s not true (which IMO there is a good chance it’s not), Dreger is just reaching a new low.

  13. If pandering to your players also means handing out large no movement contracts out like candy before anyone actually accomplished anything then I wholeheartedly agree. Wipe the slate clean and start this mess all over again, the ship is clearly sinking.

  14. Maybe Stolie beat the 💩 out of Berube, that explains both the start and the Frankenstein stitching in his noggin’

  15. How yardbarker and all these clickbait aggregator sites haven’t been banned from here beats me

  16. Trade him.

This attitude needs to be the fuck off the team yesterday. We’ve been putting up with inmates running the asylum for way too long.

  17. Interesting this sounds sort of like what Friedman said on 32 thoughts except this version makes it sound way more like Stolarz forced the decision while Friedman’s retelling is that a start in the NHL from the get go was always the plan (for pretty sensible reasons) and that everyone more or less agreed with the reasoning, and to have it be against Vegas (because that is basically the easiest team they’d be facing for the next four games)

  18. Very funny that if they’d won the reaction here would all be “ATTABOY STOLIE HES GOT THE PASSION WISH THE REST OF THE BOYS CARED THIS MUCH”

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

  19. Until this season I thought Hildeby was just o.k. at best, but this season he has taken a big step forward. More importantly though he seems so far to be a lot more durable than the “sicknote twins.” If the Stolarz story is accurate (don’t know Stolarz’s side of the story) it is not the best look for him. Don’t know much about Stolarz other than his strong performances last season, but have wondered why he had never been given a proper starting shot before.

  20. Absolutely wild. Now that he started and absolutely BLEW it… can he go down to the AHL and practice??!? Guy needs to work on his speed and ability to track shots.

Honestly- this team and their management drives me nuts.

  21. I love stolie and the fire he brings to the team, but this was just not the right move. Would’ve gave this game to hildeby.

  22. This team’s ownership and management group need to grow a pair of balls. At least one pair, maybe they can share or something.

Locker room is cancer. Time to sell.

  23. They should trade Stolarz. Not really because of this, but because they don’t have any assets and they have 2 other NHL goalies and then they can get rid of him before the extension kicks in. I’m sure someone will want him and 4 years at 3.75 is a good deal for a really good 1B goaltender.

  24. Imo ? This team just shows up every game not caring if they win or lose ,besides Laughton playing with more heart than anyone else ? Benoit Macabe ,Carlo ,Domi McCann , lorentz ,even knies haven’t played the physical game we all thought they would, anyhow ? Im sick and tired of complaining about them ,something is off ,they just give us the same excuse after every loss .(( we no we have to be better ,or we started late ,and on and on )) . They can figure it out man ,we’ve all watched them play physical hard fast ,and we’ve also watched them fall apart way too easy ,for such a talented team . After we lost to Vegas the 1st time ? I said will probably go on a 5 or 6 games losing streak . I didn’t think it would happen ? Anyhow hoping for the best ,and hoping that Trev doesent trade our future to keep his job ,its 2 late to add anyone that gives us a chance at making the playoffs, not alone winning them ..

  25. Nonody mentions the Marlies were also playing 3 games in 3 nights on the road all in different cities. No wonder he said fuck that.

  26. He thought he was ready, though he was definitely not 100% ready. Frankly speaking, the first goal was not on him at all; it should be #34 to defend the back door. Once he got the goal against for the other team’s first shot, his confidence got killed. I would say, just give him more patience, and I am sure he will really come back.

  27. I honestly believed berube was concussed at the time and that’s why stollie was playing. After the “that’s not my decision” comment I thought Brad had overstepped. The truth Is far worse a egomaniac backup goalie….
