[Mase] The Broncos offensive line ranked fourth in the NFL in run block win rate, per ESPN Analytics.

  1. Then why was our run so boring? I know there’s such a thing as good backs and bad backs, but sometimes when you watch Barkley and Gibbs highlights, youre like damn, look at that hole. First contact is 10 yards downfield! Will Lutz coulda hit that gap! And then our backs go out there, and a four yard pickup feels downright monstrous because it isnt a TFL

  2. Hard to say how much of what is contributing to their run problems. Obviously, Harvey is the first one to think of because of his poor vision and decision making when compared to Dobbins. But honestly, a scheme that can’t at least give Harvey a quality first read and allow him to produce is a problem. I’d like to see Payton adjust his scheme for that going forward, maybe bring in a bright, younger mind from outside his circle to create some screens and run plays that work better.

  3. At this point I’m inclined to think that our RB room is just not good. Harvey is a good pass catcher but a pretty atrocious runner between the tackles. JK was good but his injury history worries me, so I think we need to be in the market for another RB1 this offseason.

  4. i hope we resign dobbins at a reasonable rate. Its been awhile since we’ve had a back that would usually fall forward

  5. I honestly don’t think Harvey is confident in the hole being there when he’s getting the ball. He always seem to hesitate behind the line and never hits the ground running unless it’s just a massive gap.

  6. It worked when JK was on the field. And he’s not even top tier but it shows the drop off in the room. We need to go for a clear #1. I also wouldn’t mind keeping JK in the room on a team friendly deal behind another guy.

  7. I don’t see how this is possible. The backs get hit in the backfield or run into a wall of bodies on what seems like 90% of runs.

  8. For whatever reason our OL has been elite in analytics for two seasons, but fail the eye test. I don’t care what PFL says, our OL was mid for most of the year. Bo was under pressure a ton, and there were never wholes for our RBs.

  9. Bummed reading this as past tense. Particularly given the performance on Sunday. I will say, Luke getting back into the lineup in a few days prior hurt.

Offensive line play–particularly regarding protection up the middle, not necessarily the tackles on the island–communication is key. There were a few blown up plays that were the result of both Quin and Ben being on a different page than Luke, and that let them get up the gut quicker.

  10. So if 4th best run block rate gets the Broncos to 16th in rushing yards/game (118.7), what does 1st in run block rate get us?

  11. The eye test absolutely doesnt match these stats. We get tackled behind the los an ungodly amount.

  12. The ESPN “block win” definition is stupid. Has little correlation to actually putting up an effective block. They need to fix that before those analytics will mean anything.

  13. Sean’s run scheme is the problem he hasn’t had many impressive run games in his career

  14. And the best part was: we didn’t have a good enough running room to pair with it 😁 ugh what a waste of arguably one of the hardest things to build on a team. I will be shocked if we’re 75% as good next year
