We need another vet for fifth man and hopefully be able to replace him with a Barco by mid season. Just no Mlod openers, please. That shit kills our bullpen and he needs to realize that’s where his place is.
Mlodzinski is a reliever. They gave him a chance to start and it didn’t work. I’d rather see what Barco and Harrington can do with a larger sample size until Jones is ready.
That list of scrap pile lefties is actually pretty impressive, and Patrick Corbin does feel like a perfect fit.
We need a vet. For both stability and depth.
We are 2 injuries away from 5 rookies starting.
2 injuries away from having zero depth, aside from Mlodzinski. Who is a good opener for sure, great reliever, but not a starter.
Lefty vet would be nice.
ALLLL that, and I haven’t even touched on that fact that 2 of our current starters will likely be on innings limits. 3 if we go with another rookie.
That means, no matter what, Mlodzinski is getting a shit load of opens and 5-6-7th innings as it is.
Gotta add a veteran to eat innings. And probably a couple more on minor-league deals. It would be malpractice not to. Any injury would put them in a dire spot.
Maybe I’m optimistic or didn’t see enough of him but to me Ashcraft was/is way better than a decent 4. I was impressed every time I saw him.
Verlander makes sense as the vet on this team. He has history with our new pitching coach.
I think Montgomery could be a lefty opener a couple times a week in lieu of a lefty starter.
