In the first Super Bowl to feature two teams representing the same state (the Giants played their home games in New Jersey), Bill Parcells' Giants defeated Marc Levy's Bills 20-19 at the Big Sombrero to win their second Super Bowl championship. The game was preceded by a memorable performance of the U.S. national anthem by the late Whitney Houston; the U.S. was involved in the Gulf War at the time. Three Dog Night performed during the pregame show, and the New Kids on the Block performed during the halftime show. The game was the final Super Bowl played at Tampa Stadium; the stadium would be demolished in 1999, months after the opening of Raymond James Stadium.
On this day 35 years ago, the Giants defeated the Bills 20-19 in Super Bowl XXV.

That was a scrappy team.
A part of me is still ticked off that Belichick doesn’t get credit (in comparisons with Brady) for winning two Super Bowls with the Giants as the defensive coordinator.
Poor Bills man 😂
One of the best super bowls ever imo
I was 9. I remember watching that kick go wide right.
Wide right! The Giants win the Superbowl! Scott Norwood never played football again.
I was watching this in my apartment at college with friends. Whenever I sat holding a throw pillow leaning forward we did better. So I sat that way like the whole second half. And I ask you, where’s MY ring? The team never even sent a thank you. But that’s ok, I’m not in it for personal glory…
I still think the Offensive plan (and that it worked) to play keep away from the Bills Offense was the key. Plus the SB MVP-OJ!
The best game experience of my life. In college, two guys in my dorm had been mobilized for desert storm so it was very real to me for the first time in my life, the school had half Bills fans and half Giants fans, I was dating a beautiful young woman, she got us invited to a superbowl party at her friends parents house, all Giants fans, they reworked the basement to fit about 30 chairs and tons of food, we all stood before the game and sang the national anthem together, we cheered and groaned together throughout the game, when he missed the kick the house exploded, I got a big kiss, and I was right where I belonged in the universe.
I was 12 years old…. at that time, and still today, I believe this was the greatest football game ever played. Two teams with diametrically different styles of playing winning football. Both teams did what they did very very well. Buffalo with their shotgun, hurry up passing style with a good mix of slash running with Thomas. Defensively a 3-4 team with an unstoppable edge rush of Smith, and great linebackers and safeties that could defend the run from the 2nd level of their defense. Fast and quick all over the field. Then the Giants with their ball control power rushing, no turnovers offense that willed its way down the field four yards at a time. Defense, tough, hard hitting, smart and adaptable. They had the talent to shut teams down in all the different ways Bellicheck schemed. People forget these two teams squared off in week 15 with the Bills winning 17-13. Both Jim Kelly and Simms got hurt early in that fame. For Simms it ended his season. The rematch in the sb was phenomenal. Giants took the air out the ball and controlled the game for 42 minutes. Bills in 18 minutes of offense managed to score 17…. the 2 point safety by Hostettler saved the game. What a headsy play. A hard hitting defensive slugfest. Then the iconic wide right! Whitney Houstons national anthem. The F-16 Fighting Falcon fly over. KNOB halftime show. Jack Buck in the booth. All set to the backdrop of the 1st gulf War. Thousands of yellow ribbons in the stands. I still have the Sports Illustrated special superbowl 25 book and nfl films superbowl 25 highlight tape.
