All this talk about pass rush makes me think that Dan Morgan is fooling us again

I completely expect us to draft the unexpected. That is why I really think we will be a TE.
I doubt we intend to go pass rush with our first pick anyway. Last year he threw up a smokescreen and then went pass rush with picks 2 and 3. Plus we can bolster pass rush through FA and/or trades
We won’t know what our direction in the draft is until after FA. That is going to sure up most of our needs and give us a clearer picture on what we still need to fill.
If we get a FA TE that probably means no Sadiq if he is there at 19.
If we get a Hendrickson or Jaelen Phillips or Crosby type then we probably aren’t spending a first on Edge.
If we get Devin Lloyd or Dean then Sonny Style or Cj Allen probably aren’t the pick.
But we won’t know until March.
I don’t think this is a smoke screen. I don’t see any way we don’t address pass rush. It’s too big of a need to ignore this off season. It’s the kind of thing that gets a GM fired.
17th pick with needs across the defense, at te, and a few spots on the o line. It really could be smoke and mirrors til the draft. That’s part of why I love Dan lol
DE in the draft would be fine, but I think we need to bring in a proven playmaker.
EDGE is fine and all, and I have no problem if we go that route, but at 19, we could have a pick of the litter for ILB or TE. I’d rather have the 1st ILB off the board than the 7th edge rusher most of the time.

If one of the top pass rushers falls then we can go that route but I expect BPA or possibly a trade. We need o-line if we don’t resign players and Sadiq is an outside possibility with Sanders being mediocre/injured.
There’s just not another 1st round LB after Sonny Styles and Reese. CJ Allen is a good run stopper but not that great on passing downs for coverage or pass rush.
Fooling us again, eh? Then let’s go deep with the deception and take Lew or Slaughter in the first. The team needs a true center after all.
I mean, the FO is rather obvious about having BPA rather than reaching for a positional need, but our pass rush has been abysmal and if we don’t land a top EDGE in FA, which will be hard, we have to somehow address it in the draft.
Going to pull the rug out trick us all with a QB
As much as I think we have to go linebacker, sometimes the defense looks good and I’m more concerned about how we have been completely neutralized on offense in a couple games. we need to make sure that the line stays solid and that the opposing defense has to worry about several player makers and not just Tetaroa.
I legitimately think that Princely, and especially Scourton are going to be key players for us for years to come. I see us attacking the pass rush in free agency and going into the draft by truly taking BPA.
It’s also worth noting that this is the first year in a while where the plan is to try to be a legit playoff team. Previous years, it’s been able improving the roster overall. Now it’s about legitimately building a team. Now is the time you sign guys in free agency and maybe even make a real splash.
We tried to do that last year with Milton Williams. Our pass rush would have been much better if that signing went through. Imagine having DB and Williams as our tackles. That changes a pass rush entirely when those two guys are manhandling people inside.

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted and poo poo’d, but I wish our defensive base would shift back to the 4-3. I can’t figure out if Evero runs a base cover 3 zone because we don’t have a pass rush/personnel issue, or it’s actually what he think is our true path to righteousness.
If we’re going to run a zone heavy, 3-4, cover three shell for the base of our defense-our LBs better be really nice at pass coverage. And we better be good at generating a pass rush without relying on the heavy blitz. Both is which this defense is lacking. So I don’t know if it’s really a defensive coordinator issue, scheme issue (3-4 vs 4-3), or personnel issue.
I lean towards a blend of all three issues above. The heavy zone scheme is wise, but it’s easily exposed if you can’t get to the QB. It’s easy for good QBs to pick apart the middle of the field. Shit, even decent QBs. Our 3-4 cover 3 shell is great if our LBs were amazing in pass coverage.
You can’t have horrible pass coverage LBs AND also get gashed via the run game. So a bit of the responsibility is on Evero for not trying to adapt more. Also-our LB room sucks. Especially after losing Wallace
Edit: if Evero is still our DC and continues to run his 3-4 cover 3 zone, we sure as fuck better draft some mobile LBs who can excel in pass coverage. (Or one at least in round 1) Fuck BPA.
Is there anyone out there a la Frankie Luvu who can play as a LB and blitz really really well? That would be the next best thing for me. We have good corners and blitzed a shitload but the blitzers weren’t very effective
