[Friedman] 32 Thoughts: There’s a bunch of teams doing their due diligence on Artemi Panarin; Ducks I think are one

  1. I’ve heard multiple times now that Panarin would want a 5+ year deal… fuck to the no if that were the case. We should be good playoff contenders well before his contract would be over and we do not need to drag a nearly 40 year old Panarin with an untradeable contract

  2. They want a first, a conditional third, and a late first round prospect (upper-mid) for a team not in win now mode. Seems steep.

  3. IMO – GMPV might make this deal, if:

Quenneville liked coaching Panarin in Chicago and sways the vote.

Carlsson and/or Terry are done for the year. (or McTavish is out longer..) Panarin brings to the team scoring. Thus, keeping the playoffs in the conversation…

A reasonable deal (3yr, etc. etc.) can be struck with Panarin as a part of the trade.

  4. We’re not a cup contender. We need to stay the course. Keep drafting well and develop our young players and build a solid prospect pool. Then you can start trading assets. Panarin could completely drop off in a year or two, or body start to break down or secually harass a team employee. We would also end up giving up some good young talent and a high pick which isnt great. Unless we take a page from golden knights and say fuck it and just never have a first or second pick and go for it every year .

  5. Id only take him as a pure rental if the price goes down by quite a bit. 2nd, a prospect like hinds/warren and someone like strome going back. Absolutely do not give up our 1st for him

  6. Think it’s a good idea if the prospect we give up isn’t a top 3 in our farm. Our 1st rounder is expendable this season , it’s time to make a push.

  7. Elliotte you been hanging around Frank too much? Am I gonna have to call you Friedly Hockey? But seriously I’m not high on the thought of what it would take to get Panarin and our current Cup contention status. Another area I’m not keen on is how much money are we going to throw at him to re-sign, when we need to sign our young stars? He probably also wants a retirement contract. We’re not Vegas where players are willing to take a discount to chase a Cup, at least not yet.

  8. I’m down for the right price tbh, would be curious to see what the lines would be with him though and who gets bumped
