Has this year and next year left on his contract, FYI
Really do not get this with the $6m next season
So they gave us a third and a sixth to take on an extra 3.75M in cap
Love how Darche is rewarding this team and sure we probably don’t hit on either of the picks but you can’t hate this sort of trade
I don’t hate it. You’ve seen what’s change of scenery can do for a player. Palat was on those Tampa teams that killed us. Hopefully we can shed some salary in the form of Mayfield because I doubt Palat lives up to $6mil a year. But should be more productive than Tsyplakov.
A little sad to see the Tysplakov experiment over, given all the hype when he came in, but the writing was on the wall. Getting what should be a better 3rd rounder back after losing ours in the Soucy trade is a nice piece of business by Darche. And much like I said after the Soucy trade… these are the kinds of moves we are going to make this year. Cheap, bottom of the lineup vets that don’t get you excited.
Last 24 hours shows me we’re active and trying to get better before the trade deadline… which means Darche thinks we can build a winning culture *now.* Tsyplaklov wasn’t doing much…Palat likely brings some playoff know-how and leadership to the lockerroom. Let’s go.
I like this. Tsyolakov has his chance and didn’t do much. Palat is a better player imo. Maybe I’m just remembering his time with the Lightning.
Palat has always been a playoff guy. I don’t hate this at all
Getting multiple picks for at worst a lateral move on talent and using spare cap space is fine with me
Tsyplakov was absolutely useless this year. We picked up Palat, Soucy, a sixth and moved up in the third for him.
A solid move. And if the team stumbles before the deadline you can easily dump him.
I don’t think this is that egregious. Palat has a possibility, small possibility that he gets back close to Tampa form. Tsyplakov completely gave up. I saw it in his face the last few games. So we had someone who absolutely didn’t want to be here and useless. To gain draft picks and someone with playoff experience who could help. We take on an additional year but with cap going up, it’s not a big deal. Darche is not making a move that will cost valuable prospects.
I’d rather have a Tsyplakov with recent cups than a Tsyplakov with no recent cups
If Palat’a deal ended this year it would make sense to me.
Islanders fans complain about trading a 3rd round pick and complain about using their cap space and roster space to get a 3rd and 6th round pick go figure
He can’t score against us in the conference finals if he’s on the team..
i don’t hate it, tsyplakov was the longest RFA holdout and they couldn’t even give him a consistent top six role so i don’t think it’s unlikely that he wanted out. palat hasn’t been amazing with the devils but he brings veteran presence and is a playoff performer, and if lee and pageau are traded or even re-sign on team friendly deals his $6m for one more year isn’t that bad, plus getting back the 3rd they traded for soucy doesn’t hurt
Sippy has fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. If palat can help stabilize a line, the cost differential will make this an okay-ish deal. But if he continues to be low impact and this ultimately squeezes them out of another move, this could be subpar.
Seems like a good trade with more trade bait included

I rate this move. The cap hit is kind of irrelevant because the Isles will have tons of cap space next season. Palat probably becomes a fixture on the 3rd line with Pageau the rest of the season and you’ve suddenly got a 3rd line you feel confident putting out against other top lines.
Tsyplakov was a fun player but just so frustrating. Once every few games would have an unbelievable pass which demonstrates amazing vision but just had so many turnovers.
Along with Drouin, Shabanov, Duclair, Tsyplakov was one of 4 forwards who were never consistent enough and floated in and out of the line-up (you also have to consider Engvall here too next year as he is pretty much unreadable). Duclair of late picked up his game but that still left 3-4 guys for 2 spots on the third line and that’s just too many. Early in the season it was a bit of a blessing due to the injuries and guys playing well but as the year has gone on their impact has waned considerably except for Duclair. Palat presumably will be consistent enough to stick in the line up and be responsible defensively.
Uh. Someone who follows this sport better than I do tell me how to feel.
Like this deal.
I love these moves, it sends the message to the room that Darche believes in the guys by being buyers but they’re small moves that barely impact our future.
Tysplakov is hella mid this is a good trade we get a good player and picks
This is what I think our deadline looks like. On the margin moves aimed at improvement not looking to give up too much bc we’re still a team getting younger that is looking to contend in the future as well not just make a push this year.
Has anyone seen Matt Darche and David Stearns in the same room together 👀? Just saying.
Ya know what I trust Darche. I don’t think this trade is terrible like some people think (not necessarily in this sub)
Honestly let’s get Phil Kessel now on a PTO
Good move. Tyslupstoka was just not working out
Hate while you can guys. Palat-Pageau-Holmstrom is gonna be everyone’s favorite line come April.
